That's pretty intense. Beats my rig... Slightly. Actauly, by a bit. but the 7800GTX is holding up fine
I'm happy enough with my rig though. Although you win the e-wang measuring contest this time.
Athlon64 3500 OC'd to 2.5Ghz With <a href="http://www.bcom.ab.ca/store/webimages/THERMALTAKE-CL-P0025.jpg" target="_blank">this</a> beast of a heatsink.
Geforce 6800GT
1Gig of DDR400
260Gb SATA and 2 80Gb IDE drives.
520W PSU
2 17" CRT's resolution of 2560x1024 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Onboard sound.
My rig is slightly worse than yours but Oblivion still totally kills my fps. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
Tried ya running Oblivion on it?

Bethesda isn't known for being geniuses at coding engines. I still get craptastic FPS in that game...all the time. I don't see why, as I'm more than double the minimum requirements, but I figure this is most likely a bug with the fact that Oblivion wasn't designed for multi-core CPUs, at least on the PC version.
Its the only game that goes below, but I don't count it as it seems to be a problem on their end, not mine.
And Caboose: It initially took $1478 american, and with a extra net card and this new sound card, you can bump that up to $1800, just about.
I'm planning on buying a X-Fi, but don't have much use for a breakout box except for plugging in headphones and a mic.
Do you know if it's possible to plug existing front panel headphone and mic jacks onto the budget version of the X-Fi? If that's the case then I can do without the breakout box.
Nice system btw. No AM2?
Well... i guess its not a huge deal anyway. really just for the DDR2 memory, which itself isnt a substantial performance boost. The new nvidia 590 chipsets seem cool, if you like to OC.

Strange, oblivion runs grand for me (I realise thats like you telling me your car won't start, and me replying "well mine does, so yours has to be fine!" but anyway ->) it doesn't set me to Ultra High as default since the ultra part requires HDR capability but I set most sliders a bit higher than default 'high' setting, maybe your hardware is having an argument somewhere?
X2 3800+ @2.6ghz
Abit AV8 3rd eye
SB live! gamer edition
1.5gb DDR 333MHz (with CPU clock/6 (433mhz))
x800XT PE
Perhaps its the onboard sound causing the issue, nforce board right?

I did have onboard sound, yes, but now I have an X-Fi. I'll have to try it.
Hope it fixes it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Didn't.
I'm getting a wierd pausing while I walk- but my FPS is surprisingly good.
Have you installed the latest athlon X2 <a href="http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html" target="_blank">drivers</a>?
Also, try disabling cool 'n' quiet in the motherboard bios, it may be limiting the CPU to 50% optimal operation.
From that small description it looks like hd seek time, however, the hd you bought doesn't confirm that theory at all. And on a first use of the hd fragmentation shouldn't be an issue.

I am indeed operating on the newest X2 4200 drivers. I'll have to check the mobo BIOS though.
Maximum PC wrote a mini-guide on how to wire your front panel audio connectors into a x-fi card. It was in recent issue... the DIY one. Try searching google.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Cheers. Found <a href="http://audigy2zshowto.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">this</a> but it all looks rather daunting.
I'd probably just go for the Fatality edition but there's a <a href="http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=20555932107&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=110453" target="_blank">review on Ebuyer</a> suggesting that the breakout box can't support gaming headsets (i.e. headphones and mic) at the same time - you can only have the sound or the mic plugged in at the front, not both simultaneously. Surely that's not the case? Sounds completely daft.
It sucks though, having to dissable things for a single game that isn't opperating right, even though it is a good game, there is only so much you should try before you tell yourself to forget it. And hope the developers find a fix (If one exists)

When I posted it in their bug report forums, they said "You're system is being hogged by outward resources." When I posed the question, "Then why is it that I can run Half-Life 2 4 times over with a split-screen hack with full features and not get a slowdown?", they said "Disable everything" and locked the thread.
AMD Athlon64 4000+, Asus A8N-SLI Premium (+8.0ch audio)
G.Skill DDR400, 2gb
BFG Geforce 7900 GT OC
Haven't tried running anything other than Q4, but seems to run buttery smooth so far on maxed out settings. Actually, one of the coolest things for me right now is that I built in an Antec Sonata-II case, which is SUPER quiet and maximizes cooling. Now, I just need to fix my DVDR drive...
2gig DDR400
1TB HDD Raid Setup
Radeon 256 9800XT

and im thinking about rebuilding a whole new system. Personally I havent liked the performance of my AMD64 bit processor since ive bought it. I might end up going with an intel processor my next go around unless AMD introduces something worth it.
Oddly enough my old P4 computer i gave to a friend perhaps performed better speed wise when it was OC'd
Mayhaps my bios are fugged or what, but ive double checked time and time again.. Nothings wrong, everythings fine.. just runs like a piece of crap.
btw: if you say i might have to much stress on my processor for the crappy performance it gives me.. i thought that before as well defaulted everything and it still runs like crap. Maybe i just got the crappy end of the stick when i bought mine, dunno.
