from looking at the team section i see that the marine voices were done by <a href="http://www.maxvox.com/" target="_blank">maxvox</a>. i was wondering how much would it cost to get him to do a few more lines, such as a need welder thing. can we expect that ever to happen? perhaps a dev could help me out?

Well, we could always use our own players voice. I mean, someone out there playing NS has to have a good voice for marines and is willing to do it for free.

If I'm not mistaken, MaDMaxX (an NS dev who's done a number of sound effects for us) has a pretty good voice, but it's already in use by the DoD:S team.

I hear it's kinda creepy hearing him as your allied squadmate on voicecomm and thinking to yourself, "since when can people bind that line to a key?" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Think you guys will bring him back for NS:S? I wonder if the sounds will have to be redone, or just remastered for the new engine.

Is it really that important that all the voices from the marines are coming from the same mouth? I never understood the fuzz about buying some wannabe-actor for large amount of money for a free mod when certainly there will be people with talent to manipulate their voices that would do it for free.

It's not always down to the quality of the voice, but the quality of the recording. Anyone can record voices on their computer with a cheap microphone, but that will never sound like a professionally recorded voice using expensive quality microphones in soundproof studio rooms with proper recording hardware. And even though the final output in the game has been compressed and resampled down, the initial quality has alot to do with the end result.

    Crap in, crap out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

or blame the poor quality on the fact that the marine in question is yelling through an issued mic while in a noisy hallway with guns, grenades and various other things exploding all around him (or her)

They have teleportation technology as well as fully fledged nanite systems. I'm sure they have a microphone / headset that'll work clearly in combat situations <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Hellbilly's on it. Break out those condenser mics with XLR connectivity in the proper environment, and, voila.

New alien voice sounds would be nice also. It might be better if we change the random alien sounds(like, need healing) with the alien voice guy saying stuff.

Such as: "Heal me you FATTY!", "I'm covering you", "Follow me", basicly the same thing the marines have.

We can't make the voice the same as the HUD voice that says "The hive is under attack", because that might be a little confusing.
