Work Rant
<div class="IPBDescription">never become a manager at blockbuster</div>I work at blockbuster, i am a shift leader... what this means is that i count cash, open and close the store and get to boss around normal workers.
Part of my job is also covering other people's shifts... like today..
i live in beaverton, right next to the border of portland... Today i was called to work a shift in forest grove (to those that have no idea how far that is, it's a 40 minute drive, going 45 mph...)
I wake up at 8, take a shower, leave at 8:20... arrive at the store at 9:02... now, since this isn't my store, i don't have keys to it, last time i worked out there (wednesday) the store manager was there waiting for me to show up so she could let me in, give me keys and the code for the alarm.
i was expecting this this morning.
at 9:10 nobody had showed up, so i called my store to see if they can make some phone calls to get somone with keys there, so we can open the store like normal.
i wait.
i wait.
at 10am, normal open time, i put a sign up saying locked out, and begin ferring movies from people's car to the return bin, explaining over and over why the store was still closed, and when we would be open.
at noon... that's 3 hours i've been sitting there folks... my manager calls me and says i can go home. 3 hours in the hot sun, explaining to every other person what the heck happened.
on my way home, i stop and get some addiction supplies. (yugioh cards FTW!)
as soon as i pull in the mother effing driveway, i get a call... "umm, yeah, we need you to go back, someone's there and has keys for you... we can pay mileage for you..."
MARY MOTHER OF FLAYRA!!!! it's 1:00 pm, and i'm another 40 minutes away... i was told i could eat BREAKFAST and take a piss... and to "take my time".... which i took as 'write a blog, and check your e-mail, then go back' and for those that don't know how much "mileage is... it's 0.36 per mile... and it's 25 miles from my house to the store... (25*0.36) * 4 = "bonus" on my next paycheck
one of the only things that keeps me functioning is that last night i suprised this cool chick i work with with candy and other such goodies... and that made me happy.
so there, you know how my day started, let me know how your day started!

the building is built like a castle. theres also a village and whatnot. theres renassaince fairs and halloween crap but the big thing is fireworks. at the beginning of the season me and another supervisor have to change the flags at the top of the towers from just colored flags to american flags.
now this sounds like an easy job but the towers are really just 30 foot tall walls. theres nothing to stand on on the inside of the tower, just a 30 foot drop on either side of the wall. and since the tallest ladder we have is a 15 foot what we do is get the tracter, change the bucket for the forks, put a pallet on the forks, but the ladder on the pallet, and raise it all the way up, and the ladder barely reaches.
as i am standing on this wall 30 feet up in the air so i can reach the top of the flag pole my boss drives up and informs me that if i make a mess i have to clean it up, and he will go get me some kitty litter.
Just this last week: In a span of 1 hour I:
Found out I'm not going to Digipen.
My spot to live in Seattle fell through.
My server in WoW crashed
On which I was talking to a nice, pretty girl who happened to live in my town whom I was going to meet later that night and then it was all lost
My Parents began fighting, resulting in my dad leaving(don't worry, went back to normal in a few hours)
And found out that I was short $200 in my bank account.
Man that sucked.

on another note, if you want, i've got an extra bedroom in portland, and 3 extra beds (if you don't mind sleeping the same room as i do :S)
and then we can train for digipen together

Nah. I wanna live in the Seattle area, bigtime.
But hey, if you wanna co-rent a place up there, that'd be awesome. I was thinking of doing Bellevue Community College for a year.

What happened, Del?
i reviewed my schedule in my head, as opposed to getting up and checking the schedule at the store (it was 1am...) and i counted 5 work days... so i figured it was my day off (we had a meeting on one of the days, and i confused a "work meeting" with actually working) I got a phone call from another blockbuster (at home) saying that nobody was at my store...
ends up tat i was supposed to be working at my store, and opened at 10:45 instead of 10:00
Sunday - 13th of August:
i worked wednesday at a store away from my house by a long drive... this is the insperation for the above rant... what it really came down to was fire me, for not calling the night before to confirm that the SM would be there with keys in the morening, or fire the SM for not noticing the extra set of keys in the safe for those 3 days she worked in between my shifts.
and it's alot easier to replace a shift manager, as opposed to a store manager.
But no worries! You'll find a better job soon enough and you'll thank them for firing you in the first place, and thus giving you this opportunity!
Yes.
