<div class="IPBDescription">Leaving the losing team</div> Everytime a team starts to lose everyone abandons ship. This needs to stop have the pride to follow through with the game. I've seen many games where in the mist of a base seige the marines set up shop in some remote corner of the map. Although the tactic isn't that successful it does give you a chance. Anyway I just find it annoying when a team gets shorted their win because everyone leaves the losing team.

Then again, I can usually spot such teams long before they are considered losing.
When marines are so hopelessly pinned in their base that its obvious the aliens will win, they start to leave, and rightly so, as opposed to drawing out the game another 45 minutes trying to crack a turret-nest.
When the aliens are down to one hive and siege turrets are approaching, and they start to leave, this just hastens the fact that the marines won that game, move on, its time for the next one.
Then you start hearing the cries of "teams are uneven, balance them!" I think this is petty, since its not the opposing teams fault that most of your team left because the game was over. Yes, [bold]over[/bold]. No one, whose fought the whole game and won as that team wants to switch over to the other one just to hear the losing end game music.
My skulk **obscenity** can't possibly kill 3 HAs, who have welders.
As marines, they stand more of a chance to do a last-stand defense. Unfortunately, with 5 FPS, and acid rockets flying everywhere, that just isn't fun for me. Readyroom I go.
Now the real problem, and this may be what the original poster was hinting at, is when people complain about teams when the game has already turned sides. Like:
Aliens finally won their hard-fought battle for the 3rd Hive. Marines have only one extra resource point. Fades are running around everywhere, ripping LA LMG marines apart. Marines leave, and since we're not directly on top of their base, some people have the tenacity to scream "TEAMS!", after the game was clearly decided when your 300rp fortification at the 3rd Hive just got raped.
Funny thing is, it's usually 10mvs8a at the start, and then 6mvs10a after that 3rd Hive destruction ;p
The problem is the people. Damn people!
If I'm commanding the marines and we're doing well, it totally disheartens me to see half of the alien team immediately drop from the server. When we assault and capture a 2nd hive, another half drops. The remaining players b|tch and moan to us about how cheap we are and how uneven the teams are, when really this is not the marine's fault at all but the sore loser aliens. We SHOULDN'T have to even the teams out just because most of the aliens are wimps; but if we don't, the remaining aliens just go to the ready room and make all my hard work for nought. Totally, totally unfair.
Hats off to all the aliens who will play till the end, no matter how stupid their teammates are. I commanded on this 20 person server once, and there were 10 marines vs 5 aliens (due to mass sore loser wimpage). 4 of the alines fled to the ready room, calling us "cheap" because of the uneven teams; but the last one refused to go and played to the end. All of us marines thanked him for his good sportsmanship, and he replied "I do what I can." I can't remember who the guy was, but I want to thank him again for that. I myself never plan to initiate a RR rush, and hope I will never be in the situation to do so.
It decreases the number of players in the server for one thing.
The big problem with leaving is that many jerks leave way before its finally over, right when they see signs of a losing game.
As soon as the fade/HA-HMG patrol starts taking stuff out, the losing team starts to disperse.
That's not very sportsmanlike at all, since there's still a chance of chance of making a comeback, however small it may be.
Now, once the final base it pinned down, it really is over. But people leave before that.
Do what you want with your server but I find that silly. How can you possibly know why someone left the game? Mebbe they had to go defecate/urinate, mebbe they had to go eat, mebbe they had to goto work/school, mebbe they left to go outside or wtf-ever. Banning ppl for leaving is just silly, but as I said before......your server, your rules. "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave."
What is the name of your server? I do not wish to visit such a server. It would suck to be playing along then realise that I gotta goto the store and get banned for leaving. I do not think you will have to many ppl visiting your server after a while if you bann everyone that leaves it.
i just hate it wen people just cant take losing
I say Ngeh to that.
i normally go to the lobby, however, in a game today, i joined the underdogs, got bored of being spawn raped and went to the lobby. timed out, reconnected, joined aliens again, got bored again, went to the lobby.
got bored waiting for a clanmate, so joined marines (have to stress sides were 7v6 to aliens when i was on aliens) and told them to hurry up ffs <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
5 mins later, game restarts. i get a lookin. as we start the round, some player (who was trialling for my clan!!) ripped into me for leaving aliens, and then posted THIS -> <a href='http://www.tbd-uk.com/pfj/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2811#2811' target='_blank'>http://www.tbd-uk.com/pfj/forums/viewtopic...php?p=2811#2811</a>

it's a GAME
if it aint fun, nobody will play. nuff said.
.:SkWyReL:.
If you start doing that, please make sure they are TOLD why they are being banned. If they don't you're not teaching them anything, just confounding them.
Nope, and it could be abused quite a lot.
If the aliens have onos and/or the marines lose a certain amount of resource nodes, uhh I dunno. I can't think of what kind of mode to give the marines that would seem reasonably cool. Maybe assistance from the "corporation"? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> I can imagine a sudden drop delivery of those forklift style exo-armours like the one ripley used in aliens <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> I'd love to be able to pick up onoses and chuck them at a group of skulks, crushing them. Or hang on to the onos and use it as a battering ram or a big fat squirming club!!! MUAHHAHAHAH
I think this would add a whole new dimension to the game and would go a long way to keeping people around.
You can get a turnaround in EVERY game AS LONG AS YOU HAVE PEOPLE ON YOUR SIDE TO HELP.
And the best team WILL win, sometimes 2 players leave, 2 better ones come in and the team that was in difficulty wins. Its especially true for the aliens since everyone can "save" the team on his own.
Now if it was fair to switch teams because the marines were lacking 1 member, how come you didnt switch back when it was 8 vs 4?
Its harder with the marines because you depend much more on ressources, the commander chair, etc. But its still possible. 2 organized squads of 3 marines can retake a hive in no time and turn the tide.
Of course if you cower at spawn, hide in a vent, just to make it last longer, not to try to turn the tide and save your team then yeah, i guess you better leave.
Btw as the leader of a clan, even in a public server, youre supposed to be giving example. ESPECIALLY if you hold a code like OWP. Thats what it is to be a leader, if the hat doesnt fit, then pass it on.
