<i><b>TSA Safety Bulletin H236/A7</b>
Subsequent to Bulletin H167/B2(<u>find</u>), detailing three incidents of marine casualties due to improper use of a TSA Phase Gate, the Quartermaster division has issued the following template update. The current design of the phase gate allows under unusual circumstances for a marine to attempt a teleport during the early stages of a recycle sequence. This can even occur after the guidance systems for the gate have been reclaimed, predictably leading to a unknown destination with almost certainly fatal consequence. To prevent this new phase gates will be fitted with a self deploying guard mechanism. This will seal the teleport panel during a recycle sequence or when a destination is not available. The updated template file for the TSA Phase Gate follows.</i>

The fluff above is just a justification of this model, not details of an obscure ns bug! I may have posted this as a work in progress along side my last release, but here's the final thing. The model is largely just the original phase gate with a few adjustments to the skin. The changes make it so that the peripherals like the tubing and yellow container connect to the main model better rather than looking stuck on. These changes were actually a side effect of the main change, as I had to move bits of the skin around to accomodate the addition of an iris.
The iris seals off the teleport panel of the phase gate, so that nothing can get through. My original plan was to have this open once the phase gate was built, so you distinguish between an unbuilt phase gate and one that doesn't have a destination. However, the current version of ns doesn't support a build animation for a phase gate. Strangely, it does support a recycle animation, so the iris is now adapted for that. When a phase gate gets recycled, the iris seals the gate so nothing can teleport during the recycle process. If all the destination gates are recycled then the last PG will also seal itself off - this is actually tied to whether the gate is emitting particles/glowing.
There's possibly a bug with how I've set up the attachment for the phasegate particles, as they occasionally seem to be fired in the wrong direction or with the wrong speed. If anyone knows why this should happen please let me know and I'll post a fixed version asap. It seems to work find on most servers I've tried, so it shouldn't cause any problems. Also, since I am currently halfway through building a high poly phasegate, is it okay if I incorporate this idea into it?

Yep, sure. It's fairly easy to do, just add the sequence in with the same name and it'll work. Also, good to hear about the particles, it took me a while to figure out the attachment system to get it how it is. At first it was using one of the iris bones as the attachment points, since that had become bone 0, and I hadn't changed the QC...

I expect that was today's essential network maintanence, it took down my connection for all of this afternoon, wouldn't be surprised if the servers were offline as well. Give it a try now and I expect they'll show again.
its a good idea, it would be better if the aliens could use the phase gate... :O
Obviously, it's been removed now.
However, the original version of PhaseSelect by (voogru?) still lets aliens use the PG.
