sometimes on doors and vents there are..
Sometimes, there's an icon on vents or doors looks like a striked yellow fire. I thought it meant it was locked but most of the times I can go thru. So what is it? I've been browsing forums and various internet sites to find an answer and cannot.

areas where you can use the welder to either seal or unseal a location.

These are locations where marines can take the Welder and either seal or unseal.

On some maps, its all but crucial to seal some vents if you want to keep your base alive.

Thankyou I've been needing a post which I can quote for other threads. Some commanders think weapons are everything, but on a map specifically created with many weldable vents was made for a reason...TO USE WELDER SO MARINES CAN ACTUALLY EXPAND!

Oh... so that's what those were for...
At first I thought they were closed off, but then I realized that aliens could go through. Still never quite realized that it meant that they could be welded. That clears up a lot.

One example of weldables in expansions is tanith. One of the hives has two weldable vents that can be sealed. From our firing position any alien moving through the vent system could take us from behind so I went and welded them while under fire from offensive chambers and the occasional skulk. It also makes a viable main base once those are closed. Many hives have too many vents into them to serve as a good main base.

There's a map with the auxillary generators. Well anyone, you can weld a dropoff in a small room with two doors on both sides. Well, can a Skulk bite through those welds?

It depends on the map. At the mapper's descretion, welds can have hitpoints. The vent outside of the bast base can be chewed through, I know... it just takes a LOT of chewing.

What about the huge door in Hera that has 2 consoles on both's side? They have the icon on them. So does that mean they can be destroyed?

It means, in one way or another, you can repair the door panel with a welder, allowing Marines and Aliens alike to operate the door.

thank you for so much replies, actually, I found out by myself while playing a little more, but I think a game manual would help a lot.

the manual that comes with (the game) covers only a few aspects of gameplay.
