New Set Of Overhead Maps

BytorBytor Join Date: 2002-11-19 Member: 9323Members
Hey all, I've created a set of overhead maps of the main seven levels. Here's the URL:

<a href='http://www.tribes2maps.com/ns/' target='_blank'>http://www.tribes2maps.com/ns/</a>

You can view the maps online, or download them all in a zip file. I've also provided my photoshop files, with layers, for anyone that wants to tweak them. If you make new maps based on my files, I'd love to see them.

I haven't added weld points yet, since I don't want to do that until I have a complete list. If anyone has a way to find all weldable points on the maps, maybe with a console command, please contact me.

I'm not at my home machine so i can't check the commander's map alignment with these ones.. so are they all rotated to be aligned properly?
Other than that.... finally someone has made all the maps! You're first.. champion!

WEEEEEEE maps for me maps for me.. no more getting lost.. yayayayay

    Yup they're all oriented according to the commander view. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Wonderful. I miss the weldables, so I added them as I ran around the map and spotted them.

I also miss some of the ledges - in several room, like hera, there are suspended walkwas that marines need to be aware of. might they be added without cluttering up the map?

Oh, and nancy - what do you mean "there is a sub tunnel running under this vent", exactly? I am trying to remember what if there was one there, but I cant.

Im.. sorry for being kinda noob-ish here, but what do I do with these bird-angled map photos? Can I somehow place them into the game or something? Or is it just that I can learn them by.. watching them - only?
Someone mentioned about having a look at these maps while commanding, now that'd be very, <b>very</b> useful but is it so really? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Someone enlighten me with his/her knowledge asap

Basically they're good for studying maps offline... whether you're a marine or a commander, these overhead views will improve your game on maps you don't already know (and you really shouldn't command until you're familiar with the level, anyway).

You can't place them into the game or anything, they're simply images to study. You could print them out and refer to them while you play though.

Immacolata, can you send me the maps you added the weldables to?

As for the ledges and stuff, these maps aren't really intended to learn every detail of the levels. They are intended to help players get from point A to point B and to learn the best routes to the hives. They are also intended for learning the names of each room, so that when a teammate says "I'm in the holoroom", you know what he's talking about and can figure out a quick way to get there.

I keep these maps printed out and have them next to me while playing. Eventually I won't need them, but I'm still learning the maps. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

As for the map Nancy, I put that notation in there because the vent sort of hides a tunnel that runs under the vent, parallel to the vent, so it's not obvious that the tunnel is there by looking at my image.

The ones I have put weldables on is ns_bast. And as you, I use a printout so right now they're just red ink circles on my paper. I don't have any graphics package to alter pictures with but HyperSnap-DX - and it's better for grabbing than modifying. I shall see if I can get my lazy arse around to transfering my weld spots onto your gif.

That would perhaps be something to alter for a new revision. Somehow make it clear that there is a tunnel also, perhaps by a cutout in the corner or something. I dunno, it might not be important.

I was hoping that they were something more cool but hey, I guess someone has the willing to start learning game-maps but I just prefer exploring <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'd like to take credit for getting Bytor hopelessly addicted to Natural Selection. I badgered and poked him continuously for weeks until he gave in and tried it.

    Next step, Heroine.

Bytor, I believe the "unnamed hive" on ns_nancy is called "Mother" (I remember a PT mentioning this, it's a bug or something as to why no name appears there)

not to bring you down, you did a nice job, but you missed the resource node in acidic substance processing on tanith

Hmm. On that map there is a "Mother Interface" outside of the SubSpace Array Hive. Is that what you are thinking of?

I don't think so ... the room itself has no name on your hud when you're in there. I don't think they ever named it, or the name tag got removed by accident. Dunno.
  • AhnteisAhnteis teh Bob Join Date: 2002-10-02 Member: 1405Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
The PT's call it mother hive. I believe a previous version of the map used that name.
  • BytorBytor Join Date: 2002-11-19 Member: 9323Members
Hrm ... just doesn't seem right, since the Mother Interface room is on the other side of the map, next to the Subspace Array Interface hive.

All shall be resolved when they make the first Client Side patch.... I hope. =P
