i'm wondering also. i heard from somewhere that marines can vs marines and henceforth <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
1.03 is going to have a bunch of bug fixes and maybe a few balances. I'm not sure if it's okay to list some changes, but this is what I've noticed so far from the bug reports forum:
- Fixed bug that disallows you from being hurt by your own structures if you switch to the opposite team. (ie. Offensive chamber you built can hurt you as marine) - Fixed grenade explosions (wasn't damaging how it was supposed to... this possibly means that bile bombs we're fixed too, but don't go spreading that around) - Fixed crouching marine bug. Now you no longer have to aim down to kill a crouching marine. - Fixed perma-cloak bug - Fixed F4 alien resource exploit - Fixed Spectator in-game exploit/bug
<!--QuoteBegin--Testament+Nov 24 2002, 07:40 AM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Testament @ Nov 24 2002, 07:40 AM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Why would aliens fight amongst themselves?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> That's a good question and probably one that they are going to have to address if they implement the game feature. They would also need to create maps specifically for these types of games.
Who knows, in StarCraft, the zerg had different broods and some fought amongst eachother, as did some of the Marines and their different clans or whatever they had...maybe it could be the same thing here, some marines have gone paranoid from alien attack and are attacking other marine teams or there are two conflicting alien "broods"
Hey, maybe one day we'll get the full three race experience like Avp or SC...ya know, some honor-bound technologically-superior race that has some strange interest in taking over human ships and settlements...
I hope they added a "recycle" function for aliens. Nothing annoys me more as a gorge than some other gorge building offensive and defensive chambers all scattershot.
With regards to humans vs humans: the alien hive-mind has somehow gained control of humans on a ship and so a human team has to come in to fight that other human team? Also vice-versa, the humans invent a technology for controlling aliens' minds by somehow "capturing" a hive... then it's the aliens vs the controlled aliens. I believe the latter occurred in starcraft to some extent, but it's a perfectly plausible idea and it couldn't be considered "unoriginal"
Actually, both of those happen in StarCraft. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> But yes... that's a good idea.
Another basic idea mentioned was the warring broods and humans. Both, or a mix of them, would be plausible.
back to the topic of 1.03 i noticed the aliens were even stronger, single skulks were taking out whole groups of up to 4 marines, and it wasnt the same guy so they we either all **obscenity** good players or skulks are stronger. To prove my point it was late in the game when i joined, the aliens did have 3 hives because they were using xenocide and yet, %80 of the aliens were skulks, no fades, no onos. just skulks and gorges, and they were owning! I also noticed when they finally used fades to finish off our last base that the bile bomb range seemed increased, i was at least 2 times the distance of the explosion effect away and was still getting hit.
Great.. that was the last thing we needed. Beefed up aliens while everyone have been complaining about aliens being overpowered, I really am worried about this mod's future in pub if this is going to continue.... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
oh no...aliens are getting beefed up!! why dont you strap on 250 points of heavy armor and bounce 923792873 grenades around the corner! then you can siege crawl all the way to the hive and spend 30 resources to destroy a hive, everything around it, and anything that spawns in it.

Personally im inclined to think its a bug, remember it is a beta at this point but i cant imagine why they would deliberately increase the strength of aliens.

Why do humans in the world fight wars now? They want money, power, revenge or over religion. That's why marines fight. Maybe over an important space station or the like.
Animals fight. Some because of need for food, others for rivalry between races. That's why aliens would fight each other. Two groups have infested a space ship and now both want total control because it's THEIR territory. Or they hunt eachother because of lack for food, that is possible too. (I mean, when the marines are dead, what do the aliens eat?)
What that forumer said was totally his perspective on a game with many variables. Most of it is probably false.
I doubt they made the skulks stronger when skulk rushes are often very successful. Either it was good skulking, bad marine aim, or a combination of both. If they we're owning at the end with skulks, they probably didn't need to gestate into anything else because non-HA marines are quite easy to take out with them. Also, he probably saw the same skulks genociding over and over so as to make it seem like there we're tons of them. Marines can't see what level the aliens are.
Bile bombs have a VERY big blast radius. I wonder if this perception of a larger radius is due to the effectiveness of bile bombs being fixed. (like the grenades)

And MvM or AvA will not be added for a long time to come. It took many months to make the maps currently in NS. There aren't even map guidelines for MvM or AvA scenarios, and those in themselves will probably take a long time to write up. So months + a long time = wait until NS becomes stable enough to not be 'ruined' by something as drastic as a switch from MvA. Too much too soon confuses people. People are still confused with MvA and it's been 3 weeks.
Of coarse its only my opinion PseudoKnight, but something was very out of whack as I played. Its hard to explain in a post and it would be very long winded but just to clarify. The aliens weren't xenociding very often, I just mentioned that as proof that the aliens had their third hive but weren't evolving. Also while I cant talk for other marines I know in one case, when I was with 3 other marine and was fighting one skulk I emptied a clip and most shots did hit because I could see blood coming off the alien, and it was all over the wall etc but he still managed to kill 4 marines, all full health as we just came straight from base and all together.
I've been meaning to go alien to try it personally but I havent had the time for another game yet. Oh and as to the bile bomb, if its going to hit outside of its graphical effect then they should change the effect, its inaccurate and misleading.
Why the aliens would attack each other? Here's a possible answare:
The aliens moved over to planet A and there they went to B and C (which has very different environment). On planet B and C they evolved in each diraction and got separated hive mindes. Then the aliens on B (or C) went to D and a bit later the others did the same. And when these two alien groups met again they attacked each other because they didnt look at each other as of the same race any longer. Tada.

i dunno, any improvements will be great. at least we know we have lots of great ideas and programmers to keep up the good work.
