Game Modes for NS2

<div class="IPBDescription">diversify and multiply</div>I know I have posted this in another thread, but so as not to hi-jack that thread I thought i would create a topic all of it's own..

The real success of NS2 will be attracting as many different people from as many different online games as possible. It's a fact that the success of NS will rely on how many gamers it can convert from their current game to NS.

What is the best way for the team to do this?

Quite simply, offering more types of gameplay options. I think the creativity in the NS community that created the siege mode showed just how flexible the current structure already is, and how you can bring new life into previously exhausted game modes, purely by having 2 distinclty different teams against each other, rather than equal teams.

I know the dev's are looking at MvM and AvA modes, but i think they should leave these well alone as they destroy the whole theory behind NS, unless they have Marines vs Renegades, and Aliens vs Aliens is two totally different races of aliens, if they implement that, it would still fit in an odd way.

This is how i see the future, with some of my own game mode suggestions, and i would like people to post their own game mode suggestions too.

I think the main thing NS2 will benefit from will be having multiple game modes:

Classic NS_
Siege SG_
Combat CO_

Other game modes (variations on combat rather than NS):
Search & Rescue SR_
This mode would involve marines having to rescue people from an infected site (hehehe a bit like CS_)

Sabotage SA_
This involves marines attacking an alien held site to plant a bomb and sabotage the building/ship to destroy the kharaa threat, but they must get out again before it blows.. (Uhmm a bit like DE_)

But you get the idea...

Now get creative and post your variations and post which game they would be a variant on (NS_, Co_, or SG_)

This is where serious ideas can be created and molded and who knows what will come out of it..

I for one disagree with the MvM and AvA concept. It defeats the whole story behing ns.. MvM is just a futuristic version of CS and AvA I don't think would work too well. But I suppose we will have to see.

I also think the "grab the important documents and get out" idea stated in another thread is quite a good one and should definatly be made a game mode.

I agree with the MvM point, but if people want to play it, you need to think about it being implemented.

I think we all understand NS2 is going to be about evolution, the game moving forward, and there will be a huge difference between NS and NS2, how much of a difference, we'll find out, but it should be impressive.

Though explicitly created game modes are nice, it would be even better to give mappers new entities that would allow for completely custom game modes.

    I want to see a game mode where are 3 or 5 teams <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

1-2 alien team and 2-3 marine. I know the current maps are not big enough for this.

So the alien teams are allies. The marine teams are allies two. The marines have they own commander, and they are start from a different place. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tsa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::tsa::" border="0" alt="tsa.gif" />

That's an idea that could develop into something very big!!!

    @DarkNS:

New entities would be fantastic, but as we are talking about a full retail game, i'm sure they are looking more into official things that can be supported, although making sure they support their very own vibrant modding community is important, there has to be a line on what they concentrate on for this release.

This is definitely going to be interesting, let's see what they serve up with the NS2TR first..
