<div class="IPBDescription">the silent cleaners</div>ok, so creep can handle corpses and items that falls onto it, but what about uninfested areas, corpses there vanish like in ns1 ? maybe make it consistent and organize some cleaning method so everything looks smoothly. the first idea i got in this context is to have small maintenance robots patroling the halls and drag all unnecessery stuff to some trashing system ( trashing body hm... ) i know its an radical idea but still it's purpose is to make things consistent. few robots here and there wouldn't hurt so much i think . ( i remember that spy-robots from Minority Report were quite nice ) additionally the maintenance droids could deal with too expansive creep or better: remove the creep that hasn't any strong connection to main "unit" (hive?) e.g. left after killing a chamber. how about that ?
i originally posted it in <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=1575282130331769600&showtopic=99037" target="_blank">this topic</a> but as suggested there by Cheese its a separate idea, so it has its own topic now, i would be pleased to see your comments on that

I think Maintenance robots would increase the atmosphere a lot. They shouldnt be able to move over creep and I'm not sure about if they should have any function at all. But just seeing that the Spaceship/station still has working parts woudl be cool.
This is of course easier with a single player than with a multiplayer game.
Do you have a picture of the minority report robots? because i cant really imagine a small robot eating up a whole corpse.
Another idea how to get rid of dead player models would be the effect you see if you use the second weapon mode of the pulse rifle in hl². If this energy ball hits someone they vaporise. I would really like to see something like that. Corpse turning into nanites, leaving nothing behind
Doo doo dikkit! Doo doo dikkit! Doooweeee!
I'm always in favor of enhancing believability. At the moment NS does it fairly nicely by making sure no corpse disappears right before your eyes. It's crude but effective.
--Scythe--
they'd get destroyed by random crossfire
read carefully i didnt metion that the robot would eat or otherwise consume the body. instead a small robot can grab the body and drag it to the trashing point ( like a black hole down in the corner, see it in ns_machinery or sth ) same with left guns etc. additionally the robots could handle the med and ammo supplying. could be hard to do but i think some number of small boxes over the map could contain supplies and robots could also grab them and >quickly< move to the desired location. those robts from Minority Report would be good as they are very fast and can slip through small vent/maintenance shafts, holes , climb walls lol ;d i cant find any picture of them right now , ill try more, but they are not any close to that wheelled clean sweeper you think about, they have legs and are very dexter ;d not to mention scanning/spying abilities ;d
in my vision , they are a bit faster than skulks and are difficult to catch, also they may hide in very small(skulk cant fit) maintenance vent-like systems if idle ( and to move between the map locations) , hmm and the aliens cant sense them easly as they have no scent and are small, generally they do not attract aliens at all ;d

if the idea of dragging the stuff to the trashing point wouldnt fit devs tastes or goals, the robots could be given the tool to make vaporize unnecessary stuff ( weapons , bodies ) it would be awesome too
i want these robots in ns2 !! vote for it people ;d they might be even better than the famous creep DI
"remove the creep that hasn't any strong connection to main "unit" (hive?) e.g. left after killing a chamber."
hmmm maybe the "dead" creep would be no more green and wet and become dry and gray.. that would be also fine... like it really live and dying cuz no connecion with e.g. hive, chamber, or what evah

as for the creep there are other topics for discussing it
Should be a playable object to gather resources for the marines and perhaps weld the heavies/structures <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> Usage would be similar as the one in Galactic Conquest or as the mobile RC bomb tank in Forgotten Hope, the <a href="http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/images/vehicles/Goliath/big.jpg" target="_blank">Goliath</a>. Operated from a relatively safe location in the marine start.
I would probably only play with these things ingame, can you imagine the comedy effect!
VROOOOOOM
*weld rt*
omg skulks!!!
VROOOM (BEEP BEEP)
Skulks in hot pursuit trying to one shot kill my robot buddy!
onlooking marine team sees the little robot zooming past at the end of a hallway
Then see the skulks following it trying to kill it.
I would imagine the marines not being able to shoot, but probably rofloling all over the place
Even if it is a funny addition, I still think it would be an awesome and usefull addition. Also easier to implement then a AI controlled one <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Less off topic, these small maintenance robots could slowly clean up any infestation they encounter, meaning the kharaa would have to destroy the robots in order to be able to infest an area.
Man, this dynamic infestation opens up alot of possibilities regarding map design.
scribbles but marines are not allowe to build those robots... they are form beginning just "walking" around map and cleaning, no combat use...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I know. I never said marines would have to build them. In case of the 'killing maintenance bots to allow the area to become infested' part, I ment it to be much like a kharaas version of welding a door open or shut.
It's the future, maybe some sort of laser-cleaner. They'd disintegrated away (perhaps simply with that current animation for those energy ball thingies in HL2) (besides, I'd find it weird seeing a robot sweeping up a body calmly in the midst of this war).
Can you imagine an onos ragdoll hurtling towards you faster than a skulk can move? (since a skulk shouldn't be able to catch one of these robots)
!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tiny.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::onos::" border="0" alt="tiny.gif" /> ==--
It would also be incredibly time consuming to get rid of dead fps reducing bodies, especially if some ###### is shooting all these bots as they try to drag away a built-up pile of corpses
I'd rather just explain away vanishing bodies with: nanites!
A cool looking disappearing animation would help

yes i agree that dragging would be looking weird ... still they can desintegrate bodies similarly to hl2 ball. i understand it might be difficult to implement, but i can imagine an assault, hot fight many guys dying one by one and those robots moving around fast and desintegrate the fallen guys ;d , well even just seeing them around would be cool ;d
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->it seems you dont like robots ;d ^^ this one is good lol
yes , kill that idea! ;/ maybe it would irritate you but some of other guys liked the idea you have to agree. in my opinion some of the ideas presented in this topic are not impossible to get into ns2, of course mostly its about eye-candy but many people like the eye-candys ;d it might be used to increase sales of ns2 probably too
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sure it's a fun idea but it will only bring annoience, maybe there is "ah-oh thats cool" the first 10 times but after that it wont serve any purpose. And because it's interfering with the gameplay it isnt just eyecandy it's a element.
