<div class="IPBDescription">Personal Ramblings</div>I haven’t played Natural Selection in ages and my memory of the game is just faint nostalgia that cumulated over the years. I enjoyed the game and with those experiences am excited with the conception of its sequel. I remembered half-life as the long time adversary of the original by its nefarious undermining limitations. The development team has chosen a fine engine that has capabilities that’ll act as superb source for all the gadgetry you’ll come up with. The dynamic infestation demo made me especially giddy.
Sadly, I did become worried with one major hurdle that you as the developers will face. Natural Selection 2 owes much to the pilot original, but I am afraid that you’ll baby your old ideas. Are you prepared to toss away as something sacred as “The Gorge” if a better substitute exists? How much of a change are you expecting there to be between the sequel and the original? Remember, what you can do now is much more then before and I can easily reckon that what we saw in the first Natural Selection was heavily influenced by the parent game’s capabilities. After all, the whole name of the game is the survival of the fittest.
What is the opinion of everyone else on this matter?
An official stance on this is humbly appreciated.

I'd think definite "must haves" would be commander mode and some sort of alien hive progression. Anything other than that its probably up for grabs. Although I can't imagine the game without similar aliens to the ones we have now, if not the same except with different abilities to match the new engines capabilities (the new abilities could be explained by the aliens evolving over time).
i personally want a advanced expansion pack. Like they do it for all the newer games. Battlefield 2142 for example. The principle and gameplay is mostly the same with alot of contect added in. So i want: 1)best ideas in forums put ingame 2)eye-candy graphics 3) somekinda global ranking system 4) everything polished and more commercial like . Thanks god there doing it for valves source engine so noones pushing them , just finish it when its done- these blogs will keep us busy for the last 5 years.

That is just companies like EA choosing not to put stuff in so they can make expansions at a later date and charge people for their half arsed content addons.
My first love in Natural Selection was the Kharaa, but somehow I preferred the cooperative nature of the Marines more. I sadly found the marines more close to what I imagined the Kharaa to be, which is quite ironic but should be noted. They held less value for their own lives since death was only a small issue and the marines sometimes act as a hive mind by the commander’s command. The Kharaa on the other end were more individual based where death means a major setback and everyone was out for themselves even if cooperation is nearly always mandatory (as humans do). This is the reversal in play styles that irked me the most in the original.
Hehe, I am using this thread as my own little soapbox.

To be honest, i dont think you'll ever see "global ranking" in NS2. Thats a good thing, because this game doesnt need any stinking statpadders.
What next, unlocks?

I think BF2 and BF2142 has already proven that such ranking doesnt work if theres no credibility in the system itself. However, basic client-side only statistics should be considered, things like aim and whatnot for personal curioisity and not for global comparison.
Also, the short development cycle is going to put limits on how far they can reach for changes. We'll probably have the same 5 types of aliens, maybe 1 new one if we're lucky, simply because they don't have the resources to design and test a whole new generation of alien species. We'll probably still have MCs, DCs, and SCs, but they'll be tweaked.
Dynamic Infestation alone allows all sorts of new possibilities, so I'm not worried about being disappointed. Go Flayra!
NS2 really needs to be a substantially different game. Things do need to be thrown out. When a great idea is introduced and old idea A interferes, if the new idea is better, throw out old A. That's how it needs to be.
I have no doubt NS2 will be a great advance, and will enjoy a wider audience, then NS. They o worked have a core team of people with experience, and a solid base of fans. I expect big things.
