Any good PC games?
<div class="IPBDescription">Tis the season.</div>Well, it's that special yule-time again. My family is bugging me, asking me what I want. (Which is a good thing, sure... But I hate it, because I don't want anything.)
So, can any of you forumites recommend me any good PC games? Please?

You could ask for older stuff you don't have, i.e. Diablo or something. But listing all older cool games would take a while.
A lot of the newer console/handheld games are pretty sweet... Or just get some CDs/books/DVDs or something.
WoW expansion, FEAR expansion, Guild Wars expansion, BF2142,

He said <i>good</i> games <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> . I've heard good and bad things about Medieval 2:TW (people don't like inquisitors, apparently); I, however, lack the money to purchase such things as 'new games'.
World of Warcraft
Dwarf Fortress
Sim City
Command and Conquer
Morrowind
GalCiv2
Space Empires 4
(Guess I'm pretty big on the base/infrastructure building games...)
I think there's a patch soon (or is it already out?) that will fix a ton of issues with the game.
What about Oblivion?
In that case, company of heroes might be something for ya...

CoH has basicly no infrastructure/empire building <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" /> .. good game though.
If you haven't already got it maybe try Call of Duty 2? Hmm running out of random ideas, 2006 obviously wasn't a good year for the gaming industry on the PC.
Also, if you like turn-based games, look into getting Space Rangers 2. I can't really explain what it's like (I used to be able to compare it to a game before), but it's really good. Oh. Think of it kind of like Freelancer, but with more choices, and an isometric turn-based view. You can be a space pirate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Also, if you like action games, Rainbow Six Vegas is apparently pretty cool... I want it. :\
Looking at your list I think you'd like medieval 2. It's an awesome game, but currently somewhat ruined by numerous bugs and stuff. AI is shortbus too.

First OFF MISTER!!! It's TES: Oblivion, never forget!
Second off, it's rocks the bottom, wish for a vintage copy of Daggerfall instead.
How's Neverwinter 2? I've been looking forward to it...

Awesome and lots and lots of choices to make, impossible to get it all the furst run. Plenty of good conversations and twists, IIRC they took away persuasion and added Intimidate, Diplomacy and Bluff. MANY hours of gametime. At very least 30hours.
On topic: If you would like to try something like Oblivion but more intense action and less dwaddling around I'd recommend Dark Messiah.
For a free try I STRONGLY recommend the horror game <a href="http://www.frictionalgames.com/penumbra" target="_blank">Penumbra</a>. The site is down ATM tho.
It's not a Doom 3 spawn-enemies-behind-and-get-jumped-at-everywhere horror game, this is truly scary and with incredible physics. Instead of opening a door with ie use you grab it with mouse buttan then seamlessly open/close it by dragging the mouse forward/backward.

Inquisitors are the slightest of your worries. The "good and bad" is because not all things are experienced by everyone and every campaign is differs so people are annoyed by diffrent problems. mostly tough they are complaining about bad AI, but as of now a patch has been released that fixed alot of bugs and annoyances and made the AI better so with further patches and usermade MODs it will be the best total war game yet
NWN2 has the same problem. Alot of gamebreaking bugs but like with NWN1 the developers are fixing them and releasing patches one after another. Also NWN2 is multiplayer oriented rpg, currently there arent many good servers or usermade contect but it takes a while for the community to kick off.
so i would buy NWN2 myself.

Man, how many of you were around for the whole original NWN madness? There were like zillions of servers with zillions of great modules and zillions of great guilds to role-play with. Planescape, Baldurs Gate, KOTOR(olol), nothing has topped my experience with NWN 1. If NWN2 is even remotely like it, I'll be buying it and locking myself in my house for a week. Again.
On a completely unrelated note, what's this Penumbra? It's a free game? A mod? A demo? I don't get it, there seems to be no info on it at all on the site. Downloading anyway, sounds awesomesauce.
And to contribute, again, don't touch Oblivion. Don't touch it. If you have, cleanse thyself with gasoline. And why has no one mentioned Civ4? It's pretty much as infrastructury as you can get, no?

Sorry I gave little details about it. *ahem* Penumbra is a fps/adventure/horror game made by some students. The site does only offer a Demo, but it's going to be a full fledged game to buy at the end. I havn't completed the demo because it really scared me so badly. As said before, it's not doom3 or F.E.A.R kind of fear in it, this creeps you out to oblivion at first then nicely makes you want to hug everything soft and never return. Also as said, it's purteh and with even nicer physics. Dont let the intro throw you off, the actual game is much better.
Hints: Dont waste ANY dynamites, search the first room completly else you will have a hard time.
The monsters however. Blegh... With all the nice visuals and design, they couldn't think of a scary monster? I was honestly piss-scared all the way until the first mob, after which I just kinda ran through the whole game thinking that's as scary as it's gonna get. They should make the monster bipedal, and make it moan or roar instead of screech annoyingly. The mood and puzzles were great tho.
Sorry for the derail :-/
Ask for money and get Bioshock when it gets out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Now THERE'S an idea.
Man penumbra roxored. I can't wait till the full game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

The monster itself isnt that scary I admit, but the scene and the effects which happened when you met it made it so scary, and not to talk about how defenseless you are against them.
There will be other monsters ala imp or such, and dogs, gleh.
[...] Defcon seems only available on Steam, though...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->You can get Defcon on the official Defcon page too..
<a href="http://www.everybody-dies.com/" target="_blank">everybody-dies.com</a>
But yea, it's not available in stores :X
But yeah, DoW + expansions :S
Edit: on another note, if you plan on getting defcon, get it from their site instead of steam, that way you can get patches faster - as they often release Patch RC to the public before making them final (well, they've done this with the 2 patches they've made so far...), which is when Steam users get it :X. Also, that way you're not dependant on steam for el gameage..

If you buy it through Steam you can put your cd key into the standalone version and play exactly as if you had bought that.
