That said, I think 07 could be the new 98 if the big-name titles deliver. It's got the same big draws that 04 had going for it - the big money of every platform (GTA, Halo, HL, etc.) all in one massive holiday season - but this time looks to have the wider selection to back it up. Plus the new consoles are all off and running, so there should be some eager gamers ready to buy (for the 360 and Wii, at least, if the PS3 disappointment continues - various print and anecdotal sources seem to indicate it's actually pretty easy to find a PS3 right now and people are having a hard time actually selling them at retail or otherwise).
Also, I love how scrolling through all the MMOs and even a lot of regular RPGs on the list, the Burning Crusade screenshot is this jarringly beautiful splash of color amidst the drab color palettes of everything else. Damn is there ever something to be said for good and consistent art direction.
And as we all might have figured out, generally in terms of gaming, the future is always made to seem pretty awesome.
Seriously though, I'm surprised at how many cookie-cutter RPGs and RTSs there are. The MMO field is growing [and none of it looks too promising, except for one or two maybe's], but they're all just doing the same old stuff. At least there are a lot less ww2 games coming out... that ship has sailed, more or less, but it's being replaced by gothic style RPGs and blizzard style RTSs.

EDIT: Alright, 5 from each category. On average.
Some titles look a bit boring to me though, but I guess that's a matter of opinion on the different genres there are, and of course the games themselves.. Still an impressive list, and reminded me of some titles I had forgotten, or just pushed at the back of my mind.

I've got to agree with you about this after playing Twilight Princess.
It may not have the graphical power of Gears Of War but damn does it look more amazing. At least to me anyway.
A turn-based fantasy strategy game, inspired by Master of Magic

omg, I hope they do something good with that. Master of Magic was one of the awesomest games nobody played.
there's a lot of pretty and promising looking games in there, just makes me sad that there's never enough time to play/afford em all...
Some of the games in that list I've seen in independent stores before xmas.
I'm missing Forgotten Hope 2 though, or are "free" mods not allowed on this list or something? Still 2007 is perhaps too optimistic as the launch for it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Well it's orcs... what do you expect? I mean they have certain things that are different but they are big, ugly and green.
Some of the games on that list look very good... stalker... well nobody knows if it's really coming but if they make their promise march 07 or something... that would be pretty cool.

[yes, as others have said, warhammer came first. we all know the "blizzard ripped warhammer!" fiasco, lets not get into it here]
Starsiege 2845?
Since I'm too lazy to download the Alpha, anyone know if it's any good?
No C&C 3 due out?
