I think the gorge spreading bacteria with the heal spray is enough for now. Think of the bacteria as "the room taker-over-er". Where the welder kind of does the same for rines (shuts vents, blows open holes etc to create an advantage for the rines.)
Spit should be able to infest things,so the bacteria welds things shut. but being able to weld things shut as aliens, might be more counterproductive than productive. since most weldable vents etc is actually very handy for aliens in their OPEN state <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
And plus, most vents closing panels are either on the marine side of the blockade, which is dangerous for the lone gorge to run out into, or they're relatively high up, so the gorge can't reach them properly...
spit heal spray will create infestation, if done over a weldable the "welder" as in the rine welding should first have to weld thru a rather lengthy time to remove the infestation first or flame it down near instantly in turn the flamer would be loud alerting to imediant action or have a access point shut off, but he welder haveing to spend twice as long with a sort of save point for aliens to re infest and rince and repeat the process will be a god send i think this would be very similar to all the threads about saying makeing certain rooms more viable.
nade or GL as well would prolly clear this weldable berried under infestation, but bullets from guns should do little to no damage say a 16th of the damage a welder should do say a 4th a grenade 3rd a GL luncher half damage and a flamer does full damage
clearing the infestation from off and around a weldable could / should become a game changeing element increaseing the weld time it takes rines to weld somthing open or closed depending on the benifit, even if its a one time weldable increaseing the weld time will be a god send

True nex, I like your take on that. If I read correctly, there are infestable(weldable) areas for the aliens to take advantage of as do the marines. This would be a excellent addition IMHO.
