The unfortunate thing is that termites are pretty much like that IRL.
Speaking only from my long standing interest in our isopteran friends. Most people would assume they're hymenoptera like ants, bees, and wasps... but its just not the case.
I'll spare you all the 2000 word essay I did on social insects and polymorphism. Oh how I love the little furtlers.
I'll be playing this mod if it gets released... tho I'll be the loudest voice screaming for the removal of telepathic powers.
Telepathic powers seems to be short for "able to operate a vehicle', which I assume would be some sort of larger insect. Yoooo watch out for mah pimped out cockroach homie!
Anyway, I love the idea, but I'm still confuzed as to why they had to employ a bog standard symmetric unit design across species. Meaning theres the same light/med/heavy classes with the same basic theme for each side, with only minor differences. I mean come on - they're entirely different species, they should operate in a radically different manner :/
<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Yea It would have been much more fun to play and there would be more possibilities of encounter; If they designed the units, weapons and structures totally different in each race...
But then they have to deal with balancing these... Which infact one of the biggest reasons why NS is not as balanced as any other mod...
Either, They simply give up the variations due to problems solving balance issues or they are not that much creative... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
So hey, another gaint HL2 mod release is here! Today we've got <a href="http://www.insectsinfestation.com/" target="_blank">Insects Infestation</a>, a mod which I've been calling Insect Infestation for a while. It's a cross of real time strategy and first person shooter, with lots of teamwork and lots of ant ######.* You play as a member of Team Ant or Team Termite (Team Wasp comes later, Team 4 Year Old With Tennis Shoes not planned). You collect resources by building resource plants on resource spots and then laying pheremone trails to let NPC workers carry the resources back to your queen, and you spend most of your time trying to kill the enemy queen. You can build all sorts of plants and stuff and there are different player classes.
If you're a responsible person, you could go read <a href="http://www.insectsinfestation.com/client.php" target="_blank">the player guide</a> which is a great rundown of stuff you need to know, but you're not responsible. You want sexy. So here's some sexy: <a href="http://files.moddb.com/5792/download-insects-infestation-maps-player/" target="_blank">a big, beautiful video</a>. It doesn't show combat but the FCC doesn't show honkers and we still love them. Mirrors and YouTube version of that video (not recommended, it's real pretty) are on the main site (scroll down).
So how does it play? I don't know. But I'm a bug tester (lol bugs everywhere) so if it's anything like it was last week, it plays pretty well. You can walk on walls and stuff, and bite people's heads! The maps are pretty wicked. Watch the video.
Thoughts?
* I don't know what the forums censored; I can't remember what I typed. Hmm.
Edit: My images might not be showing up, if they aren't, well, too bad.

I'll be downloading it and taking a look this evening, most likely. XFire as always is Shockeh, if anyone fancies a try. Hell, if it's tidy, I might even chuck up a quick server.
Yipee, its out, im sorta set as a past contributor on it though, inactivity... gosh. Just havent had the time to work on it, hope you all have fun playing it as much as I had fun developing it.
This brings back memories of SimAnt. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
I was about to ask if anyone remembered Sim Ant <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> one of the awesomest Sim games... really easy to win the campaign though. you could colonize the yard and house so fast :> I learned a lot about ants in the process too
I definitely wanna check out this mod, but I can't see any of the screenshots you posted and can't watch video at work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
Sounds fun, i'll give it a go... give a shout if you kill an ant named skinny <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Considering the dodgy concept it is incredibly well made. Now they just need to fill out the rest of the classes.
Did I mention that one of the maps is called "deadcow"? Do I really need to tell you how utterly awesome the map is? I hope not!
The main problem is right now, without any real ranged "siege" insects, turret farming is a little too easy. This is paticularlly true for the ants. They are probally going to tone down the cactus I'd think.

My Ant adventure was dead in the water before it ever started.
These things just keep getting bigger and bigger....
Why in my day, (trails off)
Go into your Steam -> Tools section and download it.
It's what all mods require nowadays.

Well, it does include all new maps, plenty of insects, music, textures, and all that jazz.
Oh and downloading... *taps foot on floor*
