I'll ask on that channel and see if anyone can help.
ATM I've got;
- FTP Program
- PuTTY
- Linux HLDS Update Tool (it's listed as the Dedicated Linux Server file from Steampowered.com ?)
- NS Server Files from UnknownWorlds.com (both the server and server update zip files)
I may or may not be missing something? First time using something Linux based, or at least through SSH (I'm on Windows, trying to setup a NS server on a Linux based server box).
I'll worry about all the nice pluggins later, I just wanna get the server installed and working first. From the looks of it, it seems to be just like the client side of things. You need Steam installed and updated, then install NS (which is a server version), setup all the connection options and such then hopefully Steam's Master List detects it? Or am I way off base?
Any help is appreciated, I know a hand holding walk me through is not something people wanna do but I am definitely inexperienced for this other than basic FTPing.
Based on that guide, I need to start the server with a certain command then make it stay "screened". Do I need to keep PuTTy running and connected 24/7 to do that? The server is not my PC, not even in my house, it's a friend's server somewhere out there on the net' that he's letting me have access to.
Use HLDS and putty, how do I stop a server? Or restart a server? I can't find the commands anywhere
I also can't seem to find the server in the server list either, in game, in NS.
perhaps you are running 3.2 Beta 2? If so, then start hlds with -game nsp, and not -game ns
does the file ./ns/dlls/ns_i386.so exist?

I had a typo of some sort, that seems fixed. I edited the post with the problems I have now, though. To be fair I'm at my wits end with this. I know jack all about Linux, I just can't figure out why it's not easy to install Steam, install NS server, start up and go. I've wasted two days trying to get this to work ;( The only response people give is "try forums, ask on forums", irc channels are dead, or just full of afkers/idlers, etc
Anyway, the purpose of screen is basically allow you to close your terminal session without causing hlds to close. Just TIAS <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
