Erm, I'd suggest backing up all configuration files, and reinstalling NS, as per the instuctions for installing a new version on the files page.
If that doesn't work, then your Half-Life installation may be corrupt. Delete the Half-Life folder under c:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\<user name here>\ AND the Half-Life.gcf file from c:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps
But only do the second step if reinstalling NS doesn't work...

sorry to hijack the thread but it appears i can't post new threads or something so i found a dead one to raise my problem.
i just made a thread on "ideas * suggestions" forum, but it isn't showing up on the sub menu. it's only on the bit on the right that says what the latest thread is. so i clicked on that and made a reply, but now the reply hasn't come up :/
