ATHF bombs!

Bad joke!
I don't know what to think
Cartoon network put up LED light-ups of the mooninites around the city. Idiots thought they were bombs. FBI blows them up. They aren't bombs. Guy on fox calls ATHF a stoner show, and says stupid stoners probably did it. Cartoon network admits to doing it as it was supposed to be (harmless) viral marketing for the ATHF movie. People are still retarded.
Im laughing.
edit: Now with all the facts!

If they were really bombs then sure you'd have a guy with balls blown up all over the neighborhood.. but then you'd have reason to cause all this commotion. >:o
"omg little LED's were thought to be bombs today. I said, THEY COULD OF BEEN BOMBS. BE SCARED!"
"We can't be sure! Maybe the terrorists put the kittens in it to full us!"
"True, we must detonate it to be sure"
"OH GOD IT WAS ONLY A BOX FULL OF KITTENS! How were we to know! The humanity!"
ahahaha the video is playing in another tab "OF COURSE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THE CITY IS SAFE"... "IT WAS A HOAX AND NOBODY IS LAUGHING"... well i am...
outdoor marketing campaign.. in place for two to three weeks? even if it was just two... that's quite a while...
they didnt need to go supersoakering turner's lite brites...
ROFL.. police are going to remain on alert tonight they say... should the police ever NOT be on alert?
seriously.. this whole thing is blown out of proportion... how often do people actually find bombs on the sides of the roads in america?
i think americans just need drama... i swear if we weren't at war in iraq we'd all be killing eachother because we'd be bored...
yeah i doubt my post made much sense.. the video was playing in the background and i was sort of repsonding to it... sorry about that..
edit: when i said "lite brite" i just said that because i thought that's what they looked like.. but then i go to look at the lite brite wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lite_Brite) and... they actually were lite brites?
Also, the guy responsible is being held on some statute about planting Hoaxs to incite panic or something. Though the charge shouldn't be that since it's not a hoax.
Here's a guys flickr gallery of one of the boards he found.. weeks ago.

Apparently theres been hundreds of em put around the country to advertise the athf, they really don't look like something far off from what a kid in an electronics class would make. Hell, I remember making something similar to that, except only the eyes were blinky leds x_x
Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doD_VpT_yAY <- neat video showing them hanging em up around place ^_^t
It's pretty bad when people start to sound like satire skits by accident.
I mean seriously, in an age where people are getting nail clippers confiscated off them, didn't anyone stop to think that hanging boards up with chunky batteries and wires hanging off them would cause some alarm?
I agree that it's a sad state of affairs when such a simple thing causes such panic, but it's sadly highly predictable. They should've saw this coming miles away.
Panic: 1, Creative Marketing: 0.
While the reaction from the officials is a bit over the top, the people who designed the campaign could've at least told some of the people in charge.

Oh bull. This is simply idiotic fear mongering going batish. If we should start thinking anything with wires and a battery is reason to go insane, we really need to rethink this. Post 9/11 world BS or not, this was a insane overreaction that should have consequences not on Tuner Broadcasting, but instead, on the ######es that called this early and shut down traffic.

I'm not saying we should. What I'm saying is that if you think about it, it was obviously going to happen. I agree it's stupid and a total overreaction, but it was gonna happen. Even pre-9/11, this would've been investigated.
And don't forget, this comes only a little while (a day or so) after a load of arrests were made in England about some "terrorist plot".
"OMG, someone set up us the bomb!"

Is the US police force so incompetant they cannot tell the difference between a CIRCUIT BOARD and a BOMB?
Don't bombs usually have some large ammount of explosive which would be, I dunno, visable? Has the Bush regime really got you guys that scared of terrorism?
*sighs* Here's hoping this madness stops soon, or soon we will all be in a Nanny state xP
This is sad, really it is.

Well, depends.
If you have some caesium 137, you do not need a big explosion. Just a few grams, to make sure the 137cs is spread over the whole block.
Edit: This means, that you could pack the cs and the explosive into a capacitor hull, disguising your dirty bomb, as a circuit board.
The fact that they are so angry at Turner and co. instead of their own immense imcompetence disgusts me.

You forget that these days nothing can ever be YOUR fault anymore. There is always someone else to blame. Tripped over in the street? Sue the government for faulty paving! Hot Coffee? You don't need to wait for it to cool dow... AARGH! MY MOUTH! SUE! SUUUUUUUUE!
People can't face the concequences of their own actions anymore.
but does turner not own cnn?
and did cnn not report this like they had no idea what was going on?
is there no communication amongst the company? should there be?
im not exactly sure how that ownership goes anyway, does turner ever have to give the go ahead for cnn to report stories? and for that matter, for cartoon network to put up mooninites?

No, I don't think it would. I honestly think that anyone in their right mind would look at those(As they did in every other major city in America), use some common sense, and be able to tell they aren't bombs. Or, investigate them at the very least, and be able to tell you they aren't bombs without having to shut down the entire city.
This is a crapshoot, and frankly, its the kind of thing that should cause voters to kick someone out of office immediately, replacing them mid-term.

QUOTE

correct me if i am wrong for i do not feel like researching this very much

Most major companies like that are completely seperate entities, only referring business to one another and bailing eachother out like so. Hence why Fox News can call for censorship on everything that offends even one person, yet they fund shows like Family Guy, and the more racy reality TV.
And really, I don't think this is any 1 persons (groups) fault. Should they have probably alerted authorities before putting them out? I guess so, but they under-estimated how stupid people are.
Should the person who called in the first one maybe have not dropped out of high-school and/or watched so much of Faux news. Yeah I guess.
Should the professionally trained police been able to realize what was going on withing 30 seconds of seeing one of these? Well I would hope so. Scary to think these guys are in charge of protecting our country.
So... if someone actually makes a real bomb and actually, y'know, hides it somewhere, you're pretty much screwed. Sorry, Boston.
Reporters on CNN were acting all offended that it showed the middle finger.
Then they censored it after showing it on TV all lit up and blinking.
Media owns.
News related to my sig ftw.
I'm sure the news story will bring the show way more publicity than the actual lite-brite thingers. Well played, Adult Swim. Well played.
2 arrested for accidentally scaring a city full of morons

Sean Stevens, left, and Peter Berdovsky are charged with placing a hoax device that causes panic. They told reporters they would only answer questions about hair.
When a reporter accused them of not taking the situation seriously, Stevens responded, "We're taking it very seriously." Asked another question about the case, Stevens reiterated they were answering questions only about hair and accused the reporter of not taking him and Berdovsky seriously.
Hahahaha!
