I need help finding two threads
<div class="IPBDescription">On the off-topic forums</div>Since search only search forum posts from the last 3 months, and before the 3 months it only searches the title(according to Comprox), I'm unable to find two topics I'm looking for.
One topic was a forum member who said he saw someone with a broken car light, or something and called 911 and the police got to him and fined him.
There was another person who created a topic telling how this jerk called 911 on him for a broken light or something and he was just a few blocks away from his house to fix it.
Anyway, these were two hilarious posts that we must find!

If I recall correctly those two threads were a co-ordinated joke pulled off by the two posters in question. But my memory is really fuzzy on the topic. It's probably more rumour then fact anyway.

This is basically due to our database being too bloody massive (you guys post too much) and the operations just time out if we try to make the search any wider. Maybe someone can improve the IPB search function, no idea?

Maybe we could also seperate it somehow.
You have the option of searching each year(2006, 2005, 2004, etc) and only that year. It could even be split into half a year(Jan to June 2004, July to December 2004 for example).
Searching everything all at once is a problem, but if we can just search bit by bit, it'll be as powerful as the old days of search which searched everything(right?). It'll take longer to find what you're looking for, but better to spend an extra 5 minutes to find what you're searching for, than not find it at all?

Edit: Another thing you could try is to visit a Internet Archieve site :X I know there are some out there, and visit the NS forums in the past.. and search on the site there.. that would let you search fully in intervals - and would also get around threads missing, if some are missing that is, can't remember if it's the case..

Unless these forums have a special script that mandates this, this version of IPB will search post content as well as titles. As to the time restriction I am unsure why these boards restrict searching to three months, or how.

The search range is restricted here because otherwise it would be common for searches to take longer than 30 seconds, and nothing would get returned to users in many cases (remember trying to search before the forum went down?). That was the best solution they came up with, apparently. They should probably do something like allow you to specify a range of dates to search between, and then check to make sure the range isn't more than three months. This would allow everything to be searched, though in a slow fashion. I don't know how practical this is, so maybe it isn't a good idea.
