Skulk Climbing Up And Down Question

TheGlowTheGlow Join Date: 2002-11-22 Member: 9650Members
I noticed when Im on a wall and if I hit duck, I slowly descend. Is there a specific action that would let me climb? Other than staring up at the wall and going forward or looking down and going back?
I tried +moveup, but no dice.

Hrrr, I don't know. Usually you just point your screen where you want to go. You can climb walls backwards by pressing the backwards key while looking at the ground. You should get used to it after awhile.

Skulks have a special ability... they treat all brushes and most solid entinites like ladders. That means that wall climing is exactly like climing a ladder. Thusly, there are no commands in HL (to my knoweldge) that would make you climb up, because the skulk's wall climb is simply the HL engine treating everything like ladders for the skulk.

Hmm, I think theres a prob with that idea because using +duck on a ladder in HL makes you crouch, and then greatly reduces the sound you make on the ladder. And with the Skulk, I clearly descend. And Im not sure, but in regular HL id assume +moveup would go on a ladder.
No reason to have the command when +jump is also up when in water and where else would you have to go up? Noclip was the only time I know of that +moveup would be used.

Ermm I'm not quite sure what you're saying, but if you're asking how to climb walls:
    Look at the wall
    Move towards it
    Look up
    Voila, you're on the wall
The duck key makes you slide down the wall, I don't know why in the autohelp menus it says hold your duck key to climb walls.

Yea, see thats another thing. The help says duck is to climb walls, but you really scale down. But I want to be able to scale up and down while mainting a forward view.
Like I kept bobbing up and down like a spider while parasiting marines in their base. I dont have time to turn, look, and run up, lose sight of them, turn and come back down and be surprised.

the reason why the crouch button makes you un-latch from the wall is so that you could be cloaked on the ceiling of a taaaaall room, and with the press of a button fall onto the marine's head. (which is really effective, i might add...)

and why would you want to slowly decend down the wall anyways? you can just press and hold the walk button or turn off continual run while looking in the direction you wish to go...

i do get what your saying, but this isn't AvP/2 where the engine can handle different views. if the HL engine could do this, it would be faaarr to confusing (which way is down?) besides, of your in a marine base on the walls not cloaked, you'd be dead in a matter of seconds. best to get on a over-hang and look down + press forward so you slowly decend. looking up and holding forward will make you slowly accend.

besides, you dont have to look at ALL the building to parasite it... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Crouch now turns off wall walking. It was originally made so that crouching allowed you to wallwalk, but late in development it was switched over so that you can wallclimb all the time.

No, not view changes. I was at a stage where the marine base had a overhanging vent. So I could lower slightly, pop a few, and keep going.
Its not that huge of a deal, but it puzzled me that theres a way to descent, but not ascend, thats about it. But ive yet to drop on any marines head. I have been practicing leaping into their heads and biting them.
