<div class="IPBDescription">who is going to make it?</div>Hi <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
I was just asking myself this question:
"who is going to make the soundtrack for Natural Selection 2?"
For our current and all previous versions it was made by the award winning and incredible composer Jeremy Soule. He really has a big career to show and loads of nice soundtracks. Not to forget those he made for popular games like Guild Wars (Prophecies,Factions and Nighfall).
Will it be too expensive to get him back?
So does anybody know something we (the communty) don't know?

I think those few tracks he made for NS weren't that cheap. So this might be a question of the budget

the usual ambient stuff ns already has when you are walking around scouting all the way to heavy or more rocking stuff when your base is being ripped apart - to suspensful almost james bond type when you are setting up and defending a seige point near a hive.
having said all of that i usually switch it off if im trying to play seriously so i can hear all the walking and biting off in the distance.
And I though that everyone muted music from the game, please dont put too much money into getting some composer to make some tracks that will be muted by ppl... waste of money I say <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I never mute music. Maybe it's just you.
like me too.
But in the MAIN SCREEN, or in the setup screen, i want to hear a NICE NS -feel musics.
i voted for ' RAHMAN ' . i like him, and i think, this music stile is great for NS world.
this is not for discussing "who should make the soundtrack" or "I wish..."
I'm asking a question which only the devs might be able to answer.
he is the composer for the Stargate series both SG1 and Stargate Atlantis, as well as call of duty 3
Here's his official site <a href="http://www.freeclyde.com/index.html" target="_blank">http://www.freeclyde.com/index.html</a>
but the main menu music is well cool.

I think that Jeremy Soule can make it sound darker if he has to. The question is rather "will Flayra and his team send him a request?"

he is the pros of all pros.. haha his music inspires me in games
I also think Jeremy Soule would be the natural choice for NS2 soundtrack. Though if his salary are too high they always can use NS1 soundtrack for NS2 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Wow, Jeremy Soule did it? Didn't he create the soundtracks to morrowind and oblivion? That guy is pretty talented. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Haha, I love the slight understatement here <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
But seriously I loved the ambience of the music in NS, and hope they can build on it.
I love the works done by <a href="http://www.bungie.net/Inside/MeetTheTeam.aspx?Person=odonnell" target="_blank">Marty O'Donnell</a> and <!--coloro:#000000--><span style="color:#000000"><!--/coloro--><a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000025/filmogenre" target="_blank">Jerry Goldsmith</a><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
And Goldsmith will.. not be cheap.
Soule would be an obvious choice, due to familiarity and being a former contact.

ahh wow - you know, thinking back to morrowind days it kinda sounds similar to ns ! I wonder if you can sync them up haha
~edit~
In all seriousness it is <i>wise</i> to pay well to have good music. It makes you game epic and if your gameplay stands up then you will have a smash hit. Think of the original Star Wars when it came out. The well composed music really made you "feel" the action much more. Unique motifs for certain characters too. If you don't get it, imagine if you can without the music and you're seeing it for the first time. Ok, now think: would Darth Vader really be that impressive? The final chase down the equator of the Death Star: as interesting without the music? Hell no! Take the original Halo, good game play but with out the epic music in the background would it have been as interesting to charge in to save you squad? Or even Halo2. Ghosts of Reach is one of my absolute favorite tracks and I'll tell you what: playing them in a NS map totally changes the game play. Try it some time, play some epic music while playing NS.
So please heed my advice UWE, set a new standard in game music to back up the game play. If nothing else think of how less boring it'll make testing if you have some theme music playing!
It's too early to say much about the music, but you can rest assured it will be awesome. This is one thing we want to expand on a bit in NS2; NS has some great atmospheric music, but it doesn't really have a theme. We've already had some really talented people express interest in working with us -- and it isn't even something we've been concentrating on yet -- so I think we're really going to have some top notch music in NS2.
There is one particular musical thing I'm quite excited about for NS2, but until we know for sure that's going to happen we can't talk about it. So instead I leave you with that vague teaser statement and (hopefully) a burning curiosity.

Charlie does indeed have an amazing capacity to charm people. Since I have exactly the opposite effect on people I think we're a good team.

Heh, poor Max. Well, just hide in the closet or bathroom when you bring Jerry Goldsmith in to talk about the contract. (you do know who he is right?) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
YES!!! Get some thematic music! Something like the Raider's March from Indiana Jones, especially when doing a shotgun rush. Just make it cinematic -- be the <i>Star Wars: Episode IV</i> of the video game world! I honestly believe you can match or beat Halo's music if you try, I know Charlie can do it if he really wants to. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
As for that one vague teaser statement, I hope it's schkorpio's idea about some interactive music. I think of the Tom Clancy stuff as an example of how might work.
Thank you Max for keeping in touch with the community on this, you've made this audiophile's day.

That's just what I wanted to know.
