I agree here. I actually rushed a fade today, with battered HA and an HMG...
And he was GOOD, I killed him with my last HMG bullet, and he came damn close to taking me down. Always rush the little xenomorph.
Marines on Hera, we were pushing vent hive, and I went into the maintenance area, and heard that nasty watery sound of something gestating. I had hmg and ha, as did the 3-4 other marines with me. I walk right by a couple offensive chambers and see THREE gestating Kharaa. They just got their 2nd hive up, so I imagine they were changing to fades, possibly lerk. All three never got a chance.
Same area of the map, not a minute later I push up toward the hive itself, and I hear that sound again. Right in the middle of the tunnel was another gestating alien. Down went gestater number 4.
It didn't stop there, when I actually got into the hive yet another alien was right there gestating. Number 5 went down.
Later in the same game I got one more gestating fool.
Never had so many foolish (or bold) aliens gestating right in front of me before, but whenever I hear that sound, I always move toward it like a magnet hoping for an easy kill.
To the aliens reading....don't...ever....do that. Gestate in a vent or securely in your hive.
This thread speaks the truth!
Seriously tho, I was able to apply what I've read here in all my games today. The results were just awesome. I was totally surprised at how fast/easily many of these Fades died when myself or me and 2-3 of my teammates would follow them around the corner. I was also very impressed with the way my teammates handled their LMGs. Many of the commanders in the pub games I played in got HMGs a bit later than most, but I guess it was because they decided that we didn't really need them! A couple of guys concentrating their LMG fire on a Fade doing hit-and-run is extremely effective.
After getting up close and personal with several Fades today (and escaping ), I must say that they aren't as scary to me as they used to be.
As an 'arty' fade, my counter is to reserve enough energy for two acid rockets, when I pull back to regen. It's normally enough to take out that wounded marine that I was shooting at, when he tries to chase me down.
So, ya, chase, just go in ready to dodge. Run after me, stand there guns blazing, odds are I'll dodge while rocketing you.
If nothing else, you are cutting down on the damage done to your base, since I'm forced to conserve energy to deal with you, energy that would have sent more acid rockets into your base.
Oh, and I quit 40k when they wrote out my beloved Genestealer Cult. Idiots. I'm an 'old skool' alien player : )
Yeah, when I was a fade (carapace + celerity), i did hit-and-run too. However, I only shot 3 rockets and pretended to retreat. Then those stupid chasers got ambushed by my claws. Talk about reverse psychology.
Heh, good idea. Now if only more people were fearless.. I'll start chasing fades if marines are with me, though. They are as afraid of you as you are afraid of them.. (in some cases). Oh yes, when will the Bozar pop up in NS?
I think it's hilarious to rush a fade with a LMG and watch them RUN AWAY. They always run from HA/HMG. Probably something to do with self-preservation or somesuch....can't imagine why....
However, since they are faster than HA/HMG and love to do the hit-and-run thing, grenade launchers are a must against fades. GL is a great cover for advancing marines. The fade can keep running away, or he can risk the nade explosions and try to soften up those marines. But he can't run away forever, and when the marines get somewhere sensitive, he'll be forced to stand his ground.
What's even worse, that I've noticed a lot, is when Marines just see a fade and go "Oh ****, they got fades, we're dead now" Ok, of course it's totally ridiculous, but when half your team gives up when they get the second hive there's not much you can do. -Atropos
The problem of playing with other noob marines is the fact that they DONT hit anything... i used my rush strat, and i emptied my clip into the fade, my pistol into the fade, and was starting to knife the fade when he acid bombed my **obscenity** strait to hell...
The rush strat doesnt work when the retreating fade runs past 3 fades starting to attack... :/
life sucks as the only non noob in EVERY server i play in...
Just got back from another game. This time 2 HA newbies chased me (Mr. Fade) and fell into my death trap of slahing claws. It's a fact that newbies cannot shoot even with HMG.
Heh, kinfing/welding fades/onii(?) to death countless times should prove that they are not so scary when wounded
I play as a Fade almost exclusively. From my experience, anyone who rushes me with an LMG might as well turn the gun on themselves - they are DEAD. Rush me **obscenity**, that's what I want. I'm going to close the distance to you and tear your head off - you running towards me just saves me time.
If you are fighting an acid rocket using fade, yes rush him. If you are fighting a melee fade (like me) you probably won't have time; if you're a light armour you'll be dead. I've ONLY been killed by LMG marines after I've already been in five or six successful skirmishes and I'm limping home.
Your best chance against a good fade is heavy armour, hmgs, and backup. It's as simple as that. Jetpacks won't save you from acid rockets (and, later, Scent of Fear). Anything other than a HMG or a gren launcher isn't big enough to get the job done, and grenades are even easier to dodge than gunfire.
Sometimes I get mixed results when Im playing a fade and a marine decides to rush me. Most of the time, I just whip out my claws and kill him, but other times when I do that hes either really good at circle strafing, is good with his gun, and other times, I don't pay attention to my health (oops). Same way when Im rushing as a marine, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't (probablly becasue of the whole arty/blink difference), but the reason I do rush is either im going crazy and want to go on a kamikaze run or im sick of everyone whining about guns that the commander is not giving them because hes got other important things to do and they just sit around the base waiting for the guns, not realizing they could be doing something productive with their time.
(Best time being a fade, I was between a wall of defense towers and a door, regenerating health, when I hear the metal clang of marine footsteps, and then hear the door open, and two marines run right into me, after I killed them both easily (one was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, must have been the FEAR) they said that was one of the scariest things they ever saw)
most of the time wehn the marines are losing our being attacked to the point wehre marines are forced to defense, all they do is sit around asking for guns, armor, or stand there getting ammo. we drove them off the base, but no one chased them. i tried going kamikaze, but going alone, i got ambushed from both sides. marines cost 0, but the time to get ammo, and get killed is worser then charging and doing damage to the attackers.
This thread has certainly opened my eyes and altered my tactics.
The marines have another thing going for them, when your new to playing the Kharaa and you evolve into a fade (and this is especialy true for the Onos) you feel d**n near invincible, and wonder why you got cut down so fast the first couple of times.
Just for the record I play both sides of the fence, I prefer the team-style of play on the marine side, but ussualy end up being an alien to make up for a HUGE number of marines.
One Adrenal/Regeneration upgraded Fade Cost : 48 resources Build time : >30 seconds
Yet, if both of them charge the fade at medium-close range, and assuming they are equal in skill, two LMG/LA marines WILL take out a Fade.

That is total crap and you know it. All you have to do is hit one and the splash damage will kill the rest. No, wait, you don't really have to hit one you can just shoot a wall near them and still kill them all. Now 2 HA/HMG could probably kill a fade if he doesn't blink away, I think that's what you ment right?

QUOTE

Two HMG/HA Marines Cost : 100 resources Build time : ~15 seconds

There, I fixed your typo for you.
LOL unleet, i've seen plenty of fades fall to 1 or 2 light armor LMG marines. also another idea for you, USE THE SHOTGUN, a fade closes in range, a shotty does 2x the damage of swipe, and that is when it is completely unupgraded, 2-3 good shots takes down a fade. (get in melee range, and jump and dodge like a rabid beaver! )
Yup Fades are no where near invincible. Their armour is not fantastic, they move about the same speed as a normal marines, acid rocket will only fire 5 times before you need more energy which takes about a second to get enough for another shot. Blink is fairly useless (try using it whilst your being shot at) and doesn't work half the time even if you do the right things. A HMG kills a fade much faster than a fade can kill even a normal marine. And HMG cost 25rp and are easy to use. Anyone can spray away with a big silly gun and get kill with the HMG, fades are much harder to use.
Fades are very hard to use properly, get caught out in the wrong place and your dead meat. And a fade with two upgrades cost 48rps which is enough almost for two hmgs.
People don't realise that most fades are just good players, aliens have learnt faster because playing aliens is so different from any other game. A lot of marines are still yet to shake off their tactics and conceptions from other FPS's.
The good marines you see, are the ones that have learn how to play ns, and are not still playing CS against a team with different skins.
