What exactly did you WANT for a plot? You have an awesome actor who played the narrator and told the story of the hero of the Spartan people. This is classic stuff as far as plot lines go. What, you want more character interaction? Some kinda subterfuge?
First, deep character fleshings never work well in a feature film - there's just not enough time. Most often you just end up hurting yourself with it.
Second, the movie is based on a historic battle. I figure if they'd tried to be any more creative then they were, you'd all be screaming that it wasn't historically accurate enough.
I really don't see this "plotless" argument. If 300 had no plot, name me a movie that DID so I can be enlightened.

Hmm... What really strikes me is how many ignorant, buzzword-frenzied, two-bit critics are drawing parallels to present day political events.. The battle depicted in the movie (which is a depiction of the battle depicted in the comic..) was fought in ancient Greece. So I guess these people are saying that Frank Miller... created the Battle of Thermopylae? Bandwagon liberals can be truly ridiculous sometimes. It's perfectly natural and American to want to start a fuss over our administration. I can get pretty indignant myself.
But it's a completely separate thing to throw common sense, basic historical knowledge, and respect for the true purpose of Frank Miller's art (dramatization of a historical event, and nothing more) to the winds and claim that there's some kind of parallel between a work of historical fiction of which the subject is around 2500 years old, and Bush making war on Arabs.

That site needs a "Is the reviewer a dip[expletive]?" button. Then again, I suppose you can pull whatever you want out of things nowadays; I know over at the imdb messageboards there's people that sing undying praises about Signs...and that one of my college professors had a student relate a poem written about events in the civil war reflecting on (very specific) examples of the Gulf War.

If this guy had any idea how stupid he's making himself look he would hopefully dive off a bridge. Half the crap he complains about is honest fact from history.
I found this to also be of interest. It seems like everybody wants to complain about something nowadays. Nevermind that Iran hasn't been called Persia for more that 50 years and that the attempt to associate themselves with ancient empires is like all Americans pretending to be Iroquois or Apache (now they'll want to say that they're descended from Xerxes and Darius...). Some things are symbols and some things are things, I don't get what's wrong with people (I can tell you that when I was sitting there I was thinking "I don't think Xerxes really looked like that, but it does make him sound and look eviler" and not "Dude, that's totally Iran, let's go bomb them").
Oh yea, the marauding giant was a euphemism for Big Oil and the Spartan's spears were representative of American patriotism! Plus the guys carrying Xerxes' throne were symbols for liberals willing to please the Middle Eastern world, dirty communists!

The battle scenes? Good.
Anything involving storyline and/or dialog? sucks.

Woot for totally making things up.
All wars are basically the same, so it's very easy to draw parallels between them all!
It's like coincidences, you will find many if you look too hard enough at anything!
300 is already #176 in the IMDB top 250. Heh.
I was not displeased.
not to be confused with IRL.
