Hey cool, I'd been waiting for someone to do some hand-drawn textures in a computer game.

edit: also, mod looks neat... i think... if i could ever get an image to load here >_<
surreal kind of? i like that
The pistol looks exceptionally cool though, if they could translate that kind of style to the level-design, then they'd have something. I mean, the geometry's not all that bad, but the textures have no definition. So blah.
Also, Doom 3's bleak lighting system doesn't really lend itself to the gradients involved with pencil drawings (lighting far to hard); if you could get a shadow gradient with pencil like texture, that'd be astounding. As it is, ...yay grids?

sin city-esque. They do need that 1% colour though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Hey guys, I'd like to ask you to refrain from making negative comments about other games (especially independent games) on the Natural Selection forums. This thread is pretty tame, but things can get out of control -- e.g. the thread on Eternal Silence at the IGF -- and I think that reflects poorly on our community. Plus I'd really hate to be on another game's forum and see a lot of negative comments about Natural Selection. If you want to critique their work, they have their own forum and would probably appreciate the feedback.

Being able to recognize and identify things that are wrong with other peoples work is the first step to improving your own skills. It's not like we aren't being constructive atleast. I find it's also "easier" to have a constructive discussion about somethings down-sides when out of its territory. Aka, telling people something is wrong with their work (constructively or not) is more often then not taken with hostility.
Just sayin'

Yeah, seriously. When did the NS forum get so pansyish? Its hard to critique something when you can't make negative comments.
And who cares if its independant? If something sucks, it sucks. I'm not saying this mod in particular sucks, but jesus christ...
THIS GAME EXCEEDS MY EXPECTATIONS IN WAYS I DID NOT PREVIOUSLY THINK POSSIBLE

Edited per new NS forums standards. Make me a mod and we can get this kind of stuff in the original post, instead of forcing me to quote! I'll be efficient!

Everyone is special, everyone is unique, everyone is awesome - in there own way. Any affront to the positiveness of everything is a disgrace and insult to the government - nay the populace of the world. Do not insult the populace, or you are less special than previously attributed to yourself, but still not not-special, because that would be negative.

Now, I'm not one to go around (usually) berating people, but Max, you've got to reevaluate your communal perceptions and the process by which opinions and critiques are disseminated.
Furthermore, I have no particular volition to influence the conceptualization or implementation of design facets used in this game with their creators. I feel no masochistic need to directly negatively critique someone's artstyle to their face (I dislike expressionist art, but I'd never go up to Picasso and say "You paint like [expletive]." - unless of course he specifically asked). This would be like every film critic mailing their critique to the movie's producers and not displaying them to the general audience - and frankly that just doesn't make sense (now you may feel the urge to argue 'you only see movies when they're complete', but the survivability of numerous video game review sites displays that critiquing interactive media is often best done early on). I'm sure some people (potentially numerous people, possibly near infinite numbers of people) hate my drawings, but I'd rather they not come into my house to say "you should have made that line more curvy."
I'm also particularily abhorred by some sort of magical precedent that 'independent' games should receive some ethereal advantage over mainstream or corporate created games. Also the fact that a community of game players should somehow refrain from critiquing and examining games is absurd at best. This is the Off-Topic forum for a reason - so that things don't need to deal with Natural Selection (or negative or positive criticisms of it), and I'd like to know where you were when people were critiquing the negative points of Stalker, or Poke 646 or Zombie Panic or Them's game (the name of which eludes me...something with portals, I'd guess). I'd appreciate it if you'd avoid trying to impact the dispersal of negative opinions, especially when they are grounded and assertive.
