ALL: We can safely assume that this is Natural Selection, not CS. Because of the nature of the maps we play, we so often hear the enemy before we see him. Having vivid models won't do jack because we have no instagib/snipers in there.

Are you having some problems, dear? Or is it just that your fresh out of Counter-Strike?
I like the NS models but sometimes I want a theme change, you know, like starcraft or aliens. It prevents the game from becoming stale. I just don't understand why everyone is so paranoid about having people use models other than the stock NS ones. Nobody's going to use them to cheat, look at DoD's thriving model community for example. I haven't seen a single complaint about model constistancy yet, and I've been playing the mod since the 1.x days! I think model communities help mods a LOT more than they hurt them.
My vote is: either keep model consistancy off as default, or remove the modelling forums. I would also like for the dev team to at least give us a solid reason why they don't find player-made models acceptable.

I've never changed the models in a game, nor have I ever felt the urge to. If a game starts to get stale/old/boring it's usually because of the gameplay, not because I'm tired of looking at the models.
Some people will do anything to get an advantage. If it means changing models to ones with spikes coming out so you can see them coming before you turn corner, or see them hiding up on a dark wall, they won't hesitate to use them. That's just the way some people are.

Public servers need all the anti-cheat options they can get Think about it guys, if you'd put model consistency checks on 'off' by default, there'll be no use to them whatsoever. Most people who set up a public server rather leave things default then meddling with the options.
If it's cheater's who get grumpy because their 'custom' models possibly won't work... ...I will be very glad about their departure. Go away you hideous creatures!
A word to the devoted modeling-artists... ...I think your concern shouldn't be model consistency checks. All a consistency check does, is assure that ALL players use the SAME models (wich is crucial for a balanced game, methinks).
What you should be yelling for is some kind of 'approval stamp' from the NS-devteam that'll allow to include high quality custom model sets in the consistency check list. This would make sure that server ops will have a choice between several sets of hq custom models wich all come along with their own consistency check, to make sure every player uses the chosen model set.
Until then... custom models are for pw protected servers and lan-parties. I see no point in it anyhow if every player on a server could play with different models.

im sure it will be done like all other mods, so it's got to be within a certain size of the original, also this doesn't affect v_ weapons...but perhaps in NS's case, you could make sure that all the animations are valid and that the model is always there.
Of course, if there are model checks, I'll have to ditch my nifty Alien models...

Lock the models that are used for cheating, leave the other **obscenity** alone. Like this, lock the skulk v-model, but not the others (does the lerk have the same effect, if so, maybe lerk too.). Maybe set limits on the player models (no spikes) although that would be rather pointless since the game has radar effects that allow you to see where players are though the wall ANYWAY.
Flayra, this is the kind of issue that may decde whether NS succeeds or fails. Locking all the models and such is clearly unpopular, so you should consider this. You have a product that could go to retail, dont screw it up.
Just good advice from a business minded individual.
As is my understanding, custom models are not locked. It's a server option. Same as CS.
If you want to play with custom models, more power to you. You'll either have to find servers that allow it (which shouldn't be difficult at all), or petition the admins of your favorite servers to allow it.
Either way, everyone is getting riled up over nothing.
