Sad Such Great Servers Gone To Waste

<div class="IPBDescription">Much to explain, not big enough space!</div> I notice as i join servers im like many people who check the filter and do "people are playing", "not full". I realize that there are many low ping servers that have like 0/24 and i think to my self what a waste! I dont really blame the people though they want action and they want it now! When there is two people who join the server not even then can you start a game you at least need 4 people which is really hard to do unless major luck and 4 people join at the same time. This also brings me to a thought... how do the servers with 24/24 come to be? Who waites there and waites for other people to join or rather is it a 24/7 server? I see many mods fail because people are too afraid to join a 0 server and it seems that the majorty wont so many servers go down and soon this mod might do the same... what do you guys think?

Yes I'm in the same boat. I run a NS server 24/7 and it is almost always empty. However when ever I do get on it seems to liven up. What I do is I run the Rocket Crow Bot to take up 6 slots. Then when people see that it has some people they join. I wait till I get about 12 people then I start kicking bots. Soon the whole server is full with humans and the games are great. Well I hope that helps.

Often, servers fill up because a group of people on IRC say something along the lines of "hey lets all play Game X, find an empty server." Find 3 other people to play with you, and you've got enough for a game. From there, others will join.

There are two things to note:

1.) Empty servers ping low because the CPU process is low. The ping rises depends on how the CPU process handles it, meaning that a low ping server may eventually rise to 500+ or maintains the same low 90 or less

2.) Empty servers, when joined with about 2-4 people, would be quickly populated in the next 15 minutes, as many groups of people look for these less populated server to join so they can play together.

I dunno i joined an empty server out of sympathy and i changed my name to Waiting for people! Join! and one person came in and we waited and we tried playing but the commanders cant build anything and the aliens cant gain recources so we said this is **obscenity** and we waited another half hour and we just quit. Secondly when you are a gamer like me i dont take my sweet time to go on irc and tell people to join a server and i pretty much hate it since i have to continuesly tell them the server ip and if the server sucks i have to reassemble it, get very annoying. Also i dont have time to go on irc, i just want a quick game of NS. Also ping doesnt really mean much but the servers i joined did have good ping, reason i can tell is because the IP adress is a dead give away at the connection speed of the server... if it has 24 as its first number of the IP that means its cable. 64 is dsl i think or t1 but i can tell if its a good server. See my main point is its not like CS where you can join and a second person comes in and you both play and then more people come in. Sure it may be rapid after 4 people join in ns but thats kinda rare without irc.

P.S. thank you irc people who take their time to use it, you are keeping this game alive!

No offense but I dont join servers with bots. I believe bots in a server can do more harm than good. How many times have you seen a TFC server almost completely full but when you join it is nothing but bots? Well I have expirenced that way to many times. I have found more often than not ppl will avoid bot filled servers.

I see. Kinda like the chicken and the egg question, except instead it's the "full server and the first player" problem.
