WD RaptorX Harddrive :: Anyone Have It Installed?

I was able to get the WD1500AHFDRTL for $205.00 with tax, which was a steal. I installed it and found it very noisy when seeking. I took it back and exchanged it for another, which is still noisy at seek, but not quite as bad.

Does anyone have one of these installed? If so, is yours noisy?

Let's try hard not to bash Western Digital here and stay on topic, eh?

Thanks Savior. Never been a big fan of Newegg, since anything I've ordered has been cheaper on buy.com.

121/147 reviews were excellent, and the noise seems to be normal. Some said the RaptorX was noisier because of the clear window (which PWNZ btw). "The noise can be solved if you purchase the normal version instead of the X-Version."

How do I monotor the temperature of the harddrive?

I am also trying to determine why the WD1500AHFDRTL is more expensive.

I use this app called SpeedFan..

I don't know if its correct or anything, but it detects my seagate drives and has a list of temps inside my computer... shows HD0 and HD1 which I'm guessing are my two hdds.

Do a Google search for "PC Wizard 2007" - it tells you everything, from fan RPM's, to fan speeds, HD temps, mainboard temps, GPU and CPU temps, frequencies, RAM timings...literally - everything.

    And it is be free.

I have two of them as RAID 0. They are INSANELY fast. And plus it's fun to watch the little head dart around like crazy when its accessing data. I now know that Windows Defrag works by shoving all the data to the edge of the platters.

If you can buy this HDD, buy it.

As far as noise, it's a 10,000 RPM. It will be louder. I noticed that right away as my system is silent otherwise. I've added some neoprene rubber spacers inbetween the HDDs and their cage. That shut them up decently.
