Render shadows on a laptop when theres about 100 people in one room. It slows down VERY fast. Thats why everything is rather cartoonish, it allows things to be low poly and still look good.

Well if your computer can't do it you could like, turn off the shadows.
Friend sold an account for $1,700, a month before burning crusade came out. They had Thunderfury and full tier 3 warrior Dreadnaught set. Before WOW:BC, that was as good as gear got.
...I hame a level 58 dwarf priest on ...Demon Soul or something. He's got a cool name and everything (and crap gear), hasn't been played in ...probably 8 months...anyone want him for $1,000? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> Comes witha complementary level 40+ orc warlock.
...I don't think LotR's graphics look all that cartoony, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Maybe the hobbits don't look real enough for you? They're not real beings, you know...
The day-night cycle was pretty cool too, like the quests that take place around midnight or whatever; and the fact that you'd have like 18 elites wandering around the 10-15 area was sweet too, kept you on your toes. Plus killing stuff doesn't net that much exp, so quests are actually the main way to go.
I did like how quests were the best way to get XP, instead of the all-consuming grind. However, equipment is gotten by grinding, which displeases me greatly, and some of the quests are super tough; strangely enough, even with the large amount of players, there still seems to be very few people who want to party up for a dungeon.
there's insane attention to detail in LOTROL if you have a fancy enough computer... there's beautiful rainbows in The Shire, and I almost swooned last night when I saw the wind flowing over a field of tall grass at twilight, making it sway like waves on the ocean... I'm not usually one to care about graphics in a video game, but they're really immersive in this MMO.
and as far as being true to the books, well... at one point in “Fellowship”, after Frodo & company leave the shire, a nazgul sneaks over the hedge and breaks into Crickhollow where they were staying with Fatty Bolger. Bolger spots him coming, and runs for help- the horn of Buckland is sounded and the Nazgul runs off, realizing his prey is gone, dropping a hobbit cloak on the steps in his departure.
In game, I went to Crickhollow. Sure enough, there’s a hobbit cloak lying on the steps. It’s that kind of small detail that really impresses me. They could easily have left that kind of thing out, and no one would have really noticed or cared. By putting that kind of thing in, all over the place, they really have done an excellent job of making a very immersive world that is faithful to Tolkien’s works.

There's also the minor detail that every 'realistic looking' MMO has actually been quite awful. Kudos to Blizzard for finding a style that matched the Warcraft 3 world style, runs fast on pretty much anything at pretty much everything apart from 'z0mg new zone' levels, and still plays adequately.
That said, I still wish someone could find a way to implement player clipping without it instantly being a vehicle for same-faction griefing. Ability to truly block the path to my healers on my Warrior? Priceless.
Sounds like you're looking forward to Warhammer Online then Shocksy :3
WoW's nicer than some of the older MMOs because it's fairly quest heavy compared to the older ones (Ragnarok for example barely even had any quests at all). There's a lot of depth, history and character to the world and the 'cartoony' style is nice on the eyes (even though I think most people find themselves wishing the textures were sharper and maybe more polys these days).
For me it's let down by the Character creation (ATTACK OF THE CLONES!), the grind (I'm convinced it's possible to make an MMO without one... it's just that publishers are too lazy/cautious to bother) and... well... the static world. I also don't like the classes in the game but that's just me :p

I only played for like, 10 levels or something, but 95% of the quests I did were "Go to X and kill Y amount of Z"

Can't have many more quests than that. They have escort, collect (from the world), collect (from enemies) and kill a certain amount of this. OR, explore this. I find it hard pressed to think of a few more in a world that is completely static.

Or have LotR game like what they are making now. but less cartoony.

but this is a thread about WoW, so we digress =p
