My mouse is borked! Its lags on all hl1 games! In NS its only a minor but enough to cause irriatiotn. CS is almost unplayable.

What happens is the mouse simply lags, the buttons react late and the mouse jams in middle of an arc. In CS when ever there is movement the mouse totally freezes. Over NS there is a general froziness constantly but the action on the screen doesnt seem to affect it. Its clearly HL problem I would say.

Any ideas?

This is a known issue with steam, ongoing for a few months now. There are a few 'fixes' for the issue - first try recording a demo when you get the lag, it should fix it. You have to record a demo at the start of every round, so bind it to a key.

    Go to ctrl-alt-del....

    click on hl.exe.

    set priority : low.

This makes the half - lIfe engine have no mpre mouse lag for any hl1 game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

It has nothing to do with VSYNC.

In october 2006, valve made a HL1 Engine update that caused hl.exe to conflict with any programs that use keyboard keys( Keyboard Drivers, ATI Hotkey Poller, etc ) and VALVe simply DON'T care about it. So the only way to solve it, is killing the USELESS ati hotkey poller process(or the service so you never have the process) or the other app that hl.exe conflict with. But if it's keyboard drivers, the problem is, you won't be able to use your internet keys for instance. So solutions are:

    1) Recording a demo each time you play.
    2) Setting hl.exe to low priority
    3) Use a small app that close your keyboard driver process each time you load cs, and launch it back when you quit it. That's what i use.
