He doesn't, but neither should we make our decisions based on the worst possible outcome. In my experiences, scare tactics and shock therapy have short term benefits but don't do much in the long run. You can't live life in a cotton wool cocoon, you have to take a reasonable amount of risk and you have to be smart about choosing them.
eww, if these commercials were in video games they'd be rated Adults Only for violence =d
I will continue to drive 80 on the highway and I will continue to drive intelligently (not tailgate). you could be driving 200mph but if you leave 1 car length between you and the next car for every 10 miles per hour you're driving, you've got plenty of time to brake. 10 years driving fast for me, in POS cars, and not a single accident or moving violation.

one-one thousand two-one thousand three-one thousand
The campaign over here said 2, but now there is also talk about this "safety" rule is actually creating traffic jams and more agitated people on the road. Yet they want to run the campaign again...
Ah well, on "der Autobahn" over in Germany (right next door for me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />), there is no maximum speed. Only cars which aren't supposed to drive that fast in the first place...
Use of car lengths to guage following distance went out decades ago, replaced by the 3 second rule which generally covers any speed/vehicle. Heavy traffic, poor road conditions, or inclement weather would of course double or triple this rule, depending on severity.
Now that someone pointed out the little kid's pose in the drunk driving advert, I can't stop laughing. The only thing that would make it better if the car screamed WADDUP B*TCH when it rammed through the fence.

No puzl. No. My use of quotes was to indicate that the words were not my own. What I meant to say is that I expect people to dismiss your post in that manner (like I've already seen in this thread), because it contains an uncomfortable truth (having "fun on the road" = putting yourself and others in danger). I fully agreed with you.
I've seen several people do this. They watch the video, and instead of listening to the message, all they can think about is that the video is over the top. It's escapist thinking, the same old "yeah, but this stuff won't happen to ME" attitude that causes traffic accidents so often. "Yeah, but think about it: The vast majority of drunk drivers never get into any accidents at all. It's not THAT bad." Etc. etc. You know who you are.
Incidentally, a couple of years back (in the late nineties, actually), one of my mother's students was killed by a drunk driver. He had been at a graduation party, and was offered a ride home. He knew that the driver had been drinking, so he declined, opting to walk home instead. He was run over and killed by that same driver. Ironically, he would have lived if he had accepted the ride. Would make for a nice, over-the-top "don't drink and drive" advert. Completely improbable, right? 100% true though.

He's just talkin' 'bout his Generation. ($5 to who gets the reference)
that was probably the most obvious reference to a pop music lyric ive ever seen.
on thread: overtaking, unless youre on a freeway, should always be thought out at least twice before execution... and no, concentrating 100% on the road is not a good idea (it isnt even possible). i can drive without the radio on if i have someone to talk to on the front seat, but not otherwise. smoking is also something that keeps you vigilant, however i wouldnt advise anyone to talk on the cellphone while driving. if youre asked a question your almost entire attention will divert to answering it, especially if youre not a very experienced driver

Are you sure they don't get violently reamed by a somersaulting SUV?
I still like the Australian RTA anti-speeding commercials better, they are pretty hard hitting but dont go overly gory in the details and such. Theyve made a ton, but these are.. the best? :
But, if you dont like violence and death and the like, try some SCIENCE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9VWF1DXQ8s

I mean cmon... the timing when the car plows through the fence is just downright comedic.

Note, Velocity Squared
Also you have to take into account different vehicles have different masses.
So "1 car length" isn't always adequate.

You can't drive an SUV the same way you would a Sedan.
(And yet the ones in the SUVs tend to tailgate more....)
