how do you get a fade to slash while he's blinking?

i see it all the time, where a fade is in a mid-air blink and he's slashing at the same time. how is that done? I tried selecting weapon 1, and then 2. and then blinking and hitting the previous weapon key and hitting attack button again to slash, but it doesn't really work out to well. is there a better way?

However, an easier way is to use +movement, which will let you blink without having blink active. You can then just leave swipe selected and hit +movement to blink. This command should be bound to R by default, but you can bind it in the options menu or the console.
I use hud_fastswitch 1 (no need to "confirm" the weapon change) and just change weapons with the number keys without any use of the +movement command, but I guess its easier to learn through the new +movement option.
One of the best ways to learn the raw air control, swipe timing and fading technique is to pick a few upgrades in co_ maps and try to play as aggressive as possible. For example pick celerity and regen and try to be either on your way to hive healing or in battle all the time. After a while the fading feels quite natural and you'll be able to time your hits and blinks no matter the situation. Once you feel comfortable with the blink and swipe, try adding the metabolise to your routine. Generally the lack of upgrades forces you to stay on motion while you can still take risks and go fade again because its co_.

It actually the same thing - checking "fast switch weapon" sets hud_fastswitch to 1.
Since +movement is already around, you might as well just use ALT as +movement for example. The only thing to keep in mind is to bind your keys to make yourself comfortable, so that you don't need to do any finger contortion. Once you have that set up, it's just a matter of training yourself to get used to your controls.
Both of these options aren't really slashing while blinking. If you did need to slash while blinking, you can make a more complicated macro that uses the bare minimum amount of energy to blink and alternating the blinking with slashing. Whether you feel that this would give you an unfair advantage over other players is up to you to decide - that is if you figure out how to make this macro in the first place.

In NS for some reason 'invprev' and 'invnext' will not work with fastswitch when set to either 'mwheelup' of 'mwheeldown', but "impulse 1" will work fine for both mousewheel directions. Sadly I haven't been able to find the impulse equivalent for 'invprev' so have to use 'lastinv' instead.
(I have an optical, 5-button Microsoft Intellimouse, if that makes a difference)
