we all know it was coming, but its good to have it finally confirmed <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
maybe we could see a small video sneak peek soonish? *prays to the pagan gods of video games*
no deadline confirmed - check.
"we will take our time" clause invoked - check.
write-off of proper tutorial confirmed - check.
DOD-style flag-based spawns instead based on infestation - suspected.
flamethrowers promised for pyromaniacs - check.
Highlight of the article: Firewater immortalized on an Indian PC gaming article - check.
Not being pessimistic or anything, but it sounds like you will get this game ready by the time that everybody is moving onto the next best thing - again.
Source still has life! Look at Fortress Forever and TF2. lol.

This year is HUGE for Source. And anyway nice interview. Really do wish you guys could give more info, but I'm satisfied with teh FLAMETHROWA!!!!! hellz yes.
As for the Tutorial it shouldn't be that hard to do, should it? I know someone (don't know who) did a small little third party tut for NS 1 yes? It wasn't much but it covered the very basics for the comm.
The only thing I didn't like about the interview was the mention of TDM. Personally I hate co_ maps and really hope there will be a good bit of servers that only have the main game mode. It's what ruined the Ship, Elimination is the best game mode but you find more DM servers than Elim.
ZOMG!
Yes please, I cant wait to show all those console fps gamers why a mouse is superior!
"It won't be years though."

Does the mean that I am going to play NS2 on 06.06.2008 ?
And a flamethrower! My Lord!
I agree with Charlie 100% - hl2 may not have the best visuals around, but great artwork will always have a better result than new technology. Plus it seems that the source engine is only warming up in terms of tech. - its was merely hl1 with higher res and physics, but now its got HDR and Multicore support , who knows whats next.
hoorah for flamerthrower <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
EDIT:
Seeing as Max is working on most of the coding i just wanted ask - will I be able to import my Titan quest flame/warrior ? will anyone from TSA mind? i think he would great at destroying res points......

I hope those semantics are right!
Thanks for the interview, always good to have steady stream of info coming.

No, when someone says "it won't be years," colloquially it means "it won't take forever." He doesn't literally mean it will be done in 365 or less days.
Plus if we pushed them for a deadline it wouldn't be full quality because they might not finish things to make my deadline. Working on releasing the map update is a HUGE step, lots of games let you see NOTHING until released totally.
Lol, i am happy with what i know now, no reason to push them, they are a great team and they won't release until they are ready too. They have quality work, and they have their mind set on what they want, so why burden yourself with "is it today?" Give yourself a year and enjoy the updates, we all can't wait just like you!

Well MOST teams have dedicated mappers and dont "buy" maps from freelancers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
This pretty much means, that they have to release development updates fairly often in order to keep people interested and also draw attentions from potential mappers.
$20 - CHEAP I know i would pay more...but then I actually have an income.
Definetly, a nice read all around and I have to agree with the last post. The team definetly seems to have a grasp on the concept of having to keep the community interested if they want NS2 to make it. Well worth thier time to pass out info as things get confirmed. Kudos to Chalie and the rest of the team for continuing to plug away with a rabid community bugging them every day.
ps. CANT WAIT!
nice interview. looking forward for more in the future.
20$ ? That's a freaking nice price <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> I'll pay 30, but put an plush gorgie into the box <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> it would so help anyone get to sleep after a good day of ns2
But keep up the good work and nice interview few more pieces and we mite have something
But im sure you know what you do <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Ya burn the dynamic infestation!!
No don't burn it, im an alien!
P.S. no outdoor only, YAY (fan maps can made it if you want!)
very great, i love the price, the info, but what make me cares, is the flammethrower <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Agreed. Outdoor maps don't really fit into the NS universe and would cause a hell of alot of balance problems (as far as I know what is in the game). JP's will be a necessity, guns vs claws will be thrown off balance, and a few others issues will come up that I cant think of right now. Unless something dramatic is changed from the current game, its going to be indoors pretty much all the way.
If you really want to have fights on planets, I think those fights would/should be underground in tunnels and tram ways. Makes more sense for the Kharaa to hide there rather than open ground, still gives the indoors feel and can let that rail car concept be used too!
PS. Ah, me want the flammethower! It's going to be death to any OC walls I come across <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> (assuming splash damage
In fact, with the wide variety of units, I'd imagine an outdoor NS battle to be much more grand than indoor ones - on the scale of the Battlefield game series, with aircraft and artillery and whatever, combined with a Starship Troopers feel, with marines typically outnumbered.
$20 tho - that's an awesome price. If the game lives up to its hype, I'll definitely get it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
If DI controls spawning does that mean there might not be <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hive5.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::hive::" border="0" alt="hive5.gif" /> any more?
</wild guess>
