<div class="IPBDescription">Question on the game title. </div>Sorry if this has already been brought up, but will it really be Natural Selection 2 or is that just a working title? It's odd to name it as a sequel when it's going to be the first commercial release. Like for The Ship they just named it The Ship again, right after the original HL1 mod. Or how Valve just puts ": Source" at the end of their remade titles. Or maybe just extending the name like "Natural Selection: Origins" or something. Just a thought.

I'd prefer if it was called NS2.
But seriously, I think NS2 is fine... If you made a tagline to go with it, it'd just be silly imho. If in doubt, look at the battlefield series. Short, sweet, to the point: Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2, etc etc.
After that they will release 2 expansions named: "Natural Selection: The TSA strikes back." and "Natural Selection: Return of the babblers.".
AGHGHHH!!
/proceeds to get overrun by badly programmed robo-alien clones
It will be named "Natural Selection: A new hope.".

People would be lining up to buy Return of the Babblers! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />
The only problem is it would be two years between expansions. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
Probably something like that.
Natural Selection 2: Rebirth
Natural Selection 2: Rebirth of the ____
Natural Selection 2: Infestation (Have the mail screen n menu be a cool, infestation animation.)
Natural Selection 2: New Era
Natural Selection 2: Total Evolution
Natural Selection 2: Cleanup
Natural Selection 2: Unexpected Guests
Natural Selection 2: Emergency in Space
I am not a pro just wrote these in a couple seconds, build off it, if you want.
In the end Max and I talked about this for 10 minutes and realized that we envisioned the game being different enough and significant enough to warrant the "2" on the end so we went with it. Totally happy about that.
LOL
please don't make it ns:source <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> lol
Ns2 sounds much better as you said
We thought about naming it <b>NS:Source</b> but I never liked the <b><title> : <meaningless sub-title></b> idea. Actually, I never liked naming something after an engine either. Who cares what engine it's on?

Fair enough. It'll just be strange for new players if this goes retail. Seeing the sequel to a game that they've never heard of won't make for a good first impression before they actually play it.

Yeah, I agree. Like you said, The Ship didn't bother with a "2." I think that would probably be a good idea since anyone who plays NS would know that NS2 is a sequel and everyone else would just be confused.

True, but then again did you ever remember seeing Grand Theft Auto 1 or 2 in the store?

Most people know sequels in computer games tend to be better, at least not much worse than the first. Both because of better technology and most often it's the same team working on the sequel.
I don't think there will be much stigma of having the name NS<b>2</b>, even for those not to familiar with NS1.

Actually sequels are usually total trash except for the few most popular franchises, which is the ones you hear from most, so it's understandable you would think sequels are usually better. But even they have their crappy sequels (spiderman 3). And just because I have to mention this: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within was a total disgrace. It looked like a bunch of goth kids got their hands on the PoP source code. But anyway, just because something is newer doesn't make it better.

Hard to say, but I remember I played it at my friend's place before I played the latter ones. But really it was just a thought. I personally don't care what you guys call it so long as it kicks as much ass as the first one. I just figured from a marketing pov that the 2 would cause some confusion.
This game will be launching on Steam, so most, if not all, users will be familiar with Half-Life and probably most of those people will have at least heard of NS before.
You have to remember that this will be the second generation of NS, a "2" or "II" in the title brings a different about a reaction then a subtitle. A two lets people know that the first iteration was successful enough to warrant a sequel. With a two, people that already know the franchise will automatically realize that everything from the first one will bigger and better.
That is a very valid point. I mean, who on earth makes a sequel to a crap game?

The fast food game giants
EA GAMES, ubisoft,
they do occasionally get the formula right, but they never expand on the features enough
