Blood/scratch marks on the marine visor

A little more aesthetic flavor..
I've always thought it would be cool if game creators added some more "battle scar" type artwork in their games. One simple little visual that could help accomplish this is adding blood and scratch marks to the first person view of the marine.
Imagine a skulk jumping out of nowhere as your friend just barely saves you. But before he can kill the skulk, it takes a bite and leaves teeth and scratch marks on your visor that remind you of what just happened.
Imagine having low ammunition and fighting a skulk. You run out of ammo, pull out your knife, and slice him at the last second. Yellow blood from the skulk splatters up onto your visor. Or imagine walking down a corridor and having a skulk leap straight at you from a distance. At the last second you fire a shell and the skulk explodes leaving yellow blood all over your visor.
And if you want to take it further, imagine being devoured by an onos. Just when you think your dead, your friends kill the behemoth and rescues you. As you recover from the attack, you watch as digestive juices ooze down your visor and fall off of the screen.
I have a strong feeling that small little visual effects like this would greatly add to the immersive feel of NS2. It gives the player a stronger feeling that he is in the world he is playing in. The effects don't have to be and shouldn't be that excessive. The blood should fade away after a short time, and the scratch marks shouldn't be too obtrusive to the point where they ruin the gameplay. There could even be a client variable to disable these visuals.
Another note I should add is that the aliens should not have these "blood on the glass" type effects. The marines have a visor that can be dirtied up by the combat. The aliens do not. I have a feeling that bullet holes on the screen would reduce from the "organic" feeling that the aliens have, while it would greatly add to the marines' immersive feel.

I like it, although I wonder if this would be considered too gory for NS.

Yeah, I was thinking about that when I was writing it. But I'm willing to bet that more people would want this feature than those who don't. There could be a variable to disable it, completely up to the client. It could go along with other violence settings that could remove the blood all-together. If the player doesn't want the extra blood effects, they could simply disable them with ease.
+1
The only complaint I'd have with this is that it might be hard to see if your visor is scratched, etc., leaving you as bait. It's not really any more "gory", it's just...the gore that NS1 has would be on your visor, not just the walls.

Again, another reason for a client variable.

Wouldn't this make teamwork more important. Your injured teammate is disoriented so you need to cover him till he can see normal again.

I don't think it should be client based. Its either on or not in the game. People will always turn this stuff off so they can have an advantage which defeats the purpose of having it in game.

I wasn't saying that it should give you any visual disadvantage whatsoever. I was suggesting that it should only add to visual taste of the game. The scratches should be easy to see past, and the blood shouldn't cover too much of the screen or stay for too long. It could quickly get annoying if it were intended to hinder your view.
I love things like this that make it feel like you're in the game.
I'd like to see it that if you had blood on your visor, as soon as your hands are free (ie. not shooting stuff) - the marine would wipe it off with his sleeve or glove.

Yeah, that would be pretty funny...the first thing a marine does after being saved from an onos devour and the aliens are gone? Wipes the gunk from his visor with a sound of disgust, maybe brushes his arms off, cleans his gun, etc....

THAT would be awesome.

Ok that makes sense. I like the idea.

This would be a nice touch to improve the atmosphere.
