Pretty impressive that even with a closed system someone has already been able to do something like this. It'll be interesting to see what people will be able to do with something like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openmoko" target="_blank">OpenMoko</a>

Can the iPhone detect two/three different inputs on the screen? I've never used it and if it can't there's really no point.
That's pretty neat, it's way too slow though.

It can, and that almost makes up for not being able to text message without looking at the screen, or not being able to replace the battery, or not being able to add your own apps easily, or one of the many many other problems it's got. But yes, it does do multitouch.
Har har
The best feature of the DS NES emulator? The left trigger rewinds the game, so if you make a mistake you can go back. It's pretty fun playing The Legend of Zelda: Sands of Time.
if you haven't read it, go do so <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Apparently large parts of it got rewritten to make it run a lot better.
(and it's an iPhone)
Unfortunately, regardless of speed, it's still emulating the NES.

I don't see what is wrong with it emulating a NES. The NES and SNES have some of my all time favorite games.

But it's an iPhone. It's probably cheaper to buy an NES and a portable television.

It'd also be about 100x bigger too.

And 100 dollars cheaper!

Very true. And it'd be able to run SMB at full speed too.

Don't know why so many people are crapping all over this. No one is claiming this to be new or exclusive to the iPhone, but for a platform that isn't supposed to even be capable of running 3rd party apps, it's pretty damn cool. And it's better than nothing, because I don't have (and won't carry around) a DS or PSP. Emulators are the thing I miss most from my old phone, so I'm all in favor of seeing it happen on my iPhone.
Plus there's just the nerd factor of SSH'ing into my phone, using SCP to upload files, chmod to change them, editing XML to re-order the screen, and etc. :)

I don't think anyone's suggested buying an iPhone as just an alternative for playing NES games <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

It's not like there's any other reason to buy an iPhone. Unless you enjoy having a touchscreen smudged with whatever's on your cheek whenever you talk on it.

I agree that the SNES has good games, but this isn't an SNES emulator (or is it?). The NES really doesn't have much in the way of entertaining games, especially in comparison for what can be found elsewhere.

I at least go back once a year and play through Megaman 2. Still love that game.
