Any ideas on what I can do to fix it? soundcard: Genius no idea which 1 has latest drivers though. Speakers: AOpen surround sound 5.1 also no idea which 1.

Most highclass speaker systems have a nice safty feature that cuts off any signals if they reach a certain amplitude (so you don´t break your speakers).

This could very well be the reason for the sub shutting down.
If you check the config there are some sound parameters that you can play around with that might resolve the problem.

Plz comeback with more info if there is any change. I´ll have a it aswell and see what I can come up with.

I´m quite sure it´s not your speakers though.

try poking around with enabling/disabling EAX/AED as both act funky with NS (aka not reliably)

I've done everything I can, changed sound parameters, EAX support on and off A3D support on and off, both on and off. And still nothing changed sound quality high and low just made the jump noise and ejecting brass sound funny.

Have you tried your speakers on your friend's PC? That would be the be all, and end all result, as you're trying the same 5.1 set on another sound card. Try setting up NS exactly the same on both systems, then try the speakers.

Sorry for reviving that Thread, but I have the exact same problem. Verified that it indeed doesn't have anything to do with my speaker preventing itself from damage, messed around with the EAX/A3D-settings, but to no avail.
I've got a Terratec Aureon 5.1Fun with the latest drivers, if that helps.

Have you tried it in normal HL?
