competitive matches play 6v6,
public servers range from 12 - 32 player maximum. i'm not sure about this but you can server-browse to check.

2.about how many people are playing at any time?
around 500

3.is the game easy to get into?
it is easier to understand if you have had a gaming background in first person shooters and realtime strategy. easy to learn, difficult to master sort of thing. finding a friendly, helpful crowd to play with will help you learn much faster.

4. I heard of ns2 coming out, im wondering if my comp could take it

1024 ram
Nvidia Geforce FX5200
pentium 4
3.2 ghz

your computer should run ns1 fine. i have no idea about ns2.

You can also read the manual here to get a heads-up on what the game's about.

3) It can be a very intense and disorienting experience for the first couple of games, since things are flying around you, through the air, and completely silent (as a marine). You will die a lot, but you respawn back in the action relatively quickly. Watch what the more experienced players do and listen to your commander (the guy that gets into that chair and orders everybody). I'd recommend playing on the marine side for a while to get the basic flow of the game down. Playing on the alien side is a unique experience, although I'd recommend going gorge and building chambers that the team needs and are asking for before branching out into the more expensive lifeforms.

4) We don't know the requirements of NS2 yet, all we know is that its on the source engine and will probably be comparable to the performance of Half-life2: Episode 1. Your card will probably run it low-average, although I'd recommend an upgrade to a better direct X 9 card (which you can get for cheap these days).

If you're interested, we're having a training session on the 28th. Information at http://nsdojo.net - if you've never played, it might feel a little advanced for you, but you'd probably enjoy it and learn a lot.

The training session was krunk. Thanks Radix.

If you want to learn NS, bother Radix to have more. It's the best way to motivate someone.

Agreed. Relentlessly annoying someone is the best way to get them to do what you want. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Kind of like how I bother you to update Evolve's main page? Or add bots to the server? Or rub my feet after work?

I found the best way to learn NS is to just get in there and do it. Personally i liked not having a clue what i was doing and then slowly realizing what i had to do. Its a really good learning curve and it makes the game more enjoyable overall.

If you learn how to play on the typical 32 person server, your grasp of strategy is going to be limited to dropping turrets and OCs everywhere. It's only in smaller games where each person makes a larger impact, you begin to learn the game.
