<div class="IPBDescription">what are yours?</div>Seems to be pretty much an accepted trend that the best things on TV always die long before their time... all good things must come to an end, sure, but when it comes to TV, the better the thing - the quicker the end. in my case, most of my old favorites were cartoons that didn't last nearly as long as they should have.
<a href="http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=11436" target="_blank">The Critic</a> - brilliant show, great combo of highbrow and lowbrow humor... and Jon Lovitz was the perfect choice for the voice of Jay Sherman. one thing that hurt it was it did a little too much name dropping I think. They'd make jokes at the expense of people you never heard of a little too often. but still, this is one show I could probably quote the entirety of every episode ever written while watching it.
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tick" target="_blank">The Tick</a> - man, there was a good cartoon. I wonder what Ben Edlund is up to now? but anyway, The Tick was a superhero and a parody of a superhero at the same time. It was another show that was slapstick funny while having grown-up jokes as well. Really gave an awesome feel for what the real world would be like if superheroes and villains were actually everyday people with everyday concerns besides saving/destroying the world.
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freakazoid" target="_blank">Freakazoid</a>! - yet another cartoon that died shortly after it was created. Steven Spielberg was behind it, like the Animaniacs. It was about a computer nerd turned insane superhero. I guess we computer nerds weren't cool enough yet for this show to have mainstream appeal =p but it was immensely <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111970/quotes" target="_blank">quoteable</a>, and I think it was targetted at an audience too young to fully 'get it'...
anyway, talk about your own old favorites that died too soon. I'm sure we have some rabid Firefly fans among us, for instance =p

However I am fully with you on The Tick and Freakazoid. I honestly never got really interested in The Critic (though I do credit it as very good).
However the ones that are sorta interesting to me are shows like XMen and Gargoyles. Technically not cut short, but the latter eps were very rarely aired (instead it was just reruns of the first ones, over and over again). I eventually saw both in completion via use of The Internet!
Dead Like Me is a good one too
Firefly. Not even one season? Oh come on, it deserved at least to finish the season, compared to other series which have been going on for years.
I watched maybe two episodes of The Tick, ages ago, I quite enjoyed it.
Futurama
The Tick (Live Action Version)
Brimstone
Saved
I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting
My Favorite Episodes were probably.
The Critic "Miserable" (Buy my book, Buy my Book, Buy my,,,)
Futurama "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings"
Family Guy "Wasted Talent"
Firefly and Arrested Development were too beautiful to live in this world. They are in a better place now, with dead babies and Elvis.

oh yes, how can I forget Arrested Development, considering I just watched the entire series on DVD <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> so funnay.
The Simpsons.
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exosquad" target="_blank">Exo Squad</a>, just as it got to a nice plot change with loads of possibilities
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_Bebop" target="_blank">Cowboy Bebop</a>, well it had a good 1 season left IMHO. Instead of ending it like it y'know ended <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /><!--sizeo:1--><span style="font-size:8pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--> <!--coloro:#666666--><span style="color:#666666"><!--/coloro-->*spoiler filter saved me*<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
And everyone knows Homer cannot die or go away <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Futurama

Second.
I'm going to turn the question inside out and respond with a series that died too <i>late</i>:
The Simpsons.

I was surprised that A) it took them this long to put out a movie and B) it was actually decent...
Arrested Development
Huff
John Doe
all works of FOX ofc I think.
Drive
Nowhere Man
Firefly
Raines

My thoughts exactly, though I only saw a few dead babies in the DVD section at Best Buy...

They keep those in the back generally since they don't sell too well. Eureka seems to be doing rather well (season 2 starts October) but every show I like seems to die, so if Eureka dies, then it will have ended before its time. I pray this does not come to pass.
You know what other TV series died way too early? Veronica Mars. That thing was second only to Firefly and Arrested Development as far as I'm concerned. Season 3 wasn't the best but it shouldn't have been the last <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad-fix.gif" />
Oh wait, its coming back this Fall...###### yeah!
It didn't get cut or finish ahead of schedule, they just kept it (too) short. In one way I admire them for not milking it, but I think they could have got at least one more season out of it without risking any staleness.
Its one of my favorite shows now, next to Friday Night Lights. Anyone else happy that Friday Night Lights can't be added to this list yet (yay for its full renewal of a second season)
Intro made me think it was a game show at first, though.
Futurama just got better each year, and the final episode was my favorite too. If the series wasn't going to be brought back, I say it would have been a perfect way to go out.
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exosquad" target="_blank">Exo Squad</a>, just as it got to a nice plot change with loads of possibilities

QFT
also: Craft Corner Deathmatch
John Doe, there was just something about this show.
Heist, it had a kind of Oceans 11 thing going which i liked.
Invasion, Surface and Threshold.......3 perfectly fine "alien" series cancelled in the same year.
Emily's Reasons Why Not, just because Heather Graham is hot!
In Case Of Emergency, it had it's moments.
And last but not least <b>Stargate SG-1</b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
