<div class="IPBDescription">Core 2 Duo</div>this is the site where i'm buying my stuff from so choose from it (it's in finnish but the names are in english so no probs!)

<a href="http://www.verkkokauppa.com/main.php?path=tarvikkeet%2Fasennus&title=Tarvikkeet+/+Asennus&search=1&cat1=Tarvikkeet&cat2=Asennus&cat3=Prosessorituulettimet" target="_blank">Link</a>

currently my cpu runs at 55c idle (default heatsink) so i'm looking for one which has runs well under load and oc'd, money isn't a big problem as long as it doesn't run up to a few hundred euros!

    Bad.applied.heatsink.

About custom heatsinks, I like this one: <a href="http://www.silentpcreview.com/article251-page1.html" target="_blank">Scythe SCNJ-1000 Ninja heatsink review on Silentpcreview</a>

The current Scythe Ninja models have clip mounting... so I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Verkkokauppa doesn't carry them, but Thermalright's Ultra-120 is the goods (there's a new "extreme" version out now, too). I'm using one with my E6400@3.0, idle temps are about 15C over ambient (currently 41C in a 26C room), and they'll rise up to ~50C under load tops. The CPU fan is an 800RPM scythe s-flex, and the two exhaust fans are set to about 750/500RPM, respectively.

As Zaggy said, it sounds like an improperly attached paste and heat sink. The stock cooler should keep it <b>well</b> below 50 degrees celsius at idle. In fact, I don't think my processor goes much higher than 50 when it's at full load.

yea thermalright 120 looked good but cant find it anywhere here and that site is generally the major computer store around so if it's not there it's probably going to be hard to find locally.

I'm quite happy with my Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower

Yes, it has a fan, but at max it purrs like a (dead) kitten.

i liked the scythe name and naming style but the review said that the scythe didnt come with a fan and you shouldn't use the fanless mode if you oc/heavy load

looking at a review of the zalman it looks fine except the installation seems extremely complicated (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zalman/CNPS-9500LED/images/accessories6.jpg)

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->FYI you don't use ALL those parts! Those are just different parts to fit different CPUs (Intel/AMD, different socket numbers, etc.).

What's lame about that choice of picture is it doesn't show the instructions that come with it. Installing it really wasn't that hard. It comes with some half-decent conductive paste, although I'd recommend investing in a little tube of Artic Silver for better performance and so you have some left over for re-application if needed (I used all the paste that came with the fan in the installation 6 months ago). So as long as you have a steady hand and you can read a manual OK and you have decent spatial awareness and hand-eye co-ordination, installation isn't really that hard at all. And if you don't know how to connect the fan controller then you either need to ask for help or you should be buying pre-fab machines and not trying to make your own.

The only thing I'd say is just check the dimensions of the fan because it barely fit in my case and my case is pretty spacious.

[Edit] I did take some pics when I was assembling it but I think they're on a flash memory card somewhere. I'll try to dig them out because it should show how undaunting it is when you see it for yourself.

Mine (scythe ninja) did come with a fan, but I don't use it, yay at passive cooling.
(disclaimer: I have 3 case fans, and the psu fan)
I've been playing games like battlefield 2, overlord and supreme commander, works excellent at stock speed.

    I couldn't find Intel's manual, but this will do as well: <a href="http://www.frozencpu.com/resource/r8/How_to_Apply_Thermal_Paste.html" target="_blank">http://www.frozencpu.com/resource/r8/How_t...rmal_Paste.html</a>

Get the tuniq tower 120 if you have lots of room, and dont mind removing the mobo to install the backplate. Its considered the best air cooler by many.

I bought the <a href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003" target="_blank">Intel E6600</a> and just used the stock fan. I just checked the temperatures, and they're both around thirty degrees Celsius.

guess that pretty much concludes that it's the paste, did you use any paste on yours? (the guys said it wasnt needed) anyway regardless im gonna go buy a new heatsink and paste so start suggesting...and from the list please ;p

My stock cooler plus E6700 worked fine without paste. The stock coolers come with a bit of paste-ish stuff pre-applied.

What, exactly, are you measuring those temps with? Coretemp? Speedfan 4.32 beta or later? Intel Thermal Analysis Tool?

Other applications can't be trusted, since they don't measure the temperature using the core(s) internal sensor(s).

    ah for the record i use coretemp <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

The stock cooler had paste pre-applied, and I used Coretemp to get the readings.

    <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" /> I guess the stock HSF is quite decent then.

I made a chiller with water block for $40, pump for $40, car radiator for $20, and tubes and connector stuff for $20. Then I cut a shroud to fit the radiator to a window air conditioning unit I found sitting useless in my garage. Got the core duo to 12.0 Celsius for $120 out of pocket. LOL the mobo couldn't even keep up with my uber hax overclocks. It is an Apogee block, it is sweet. And I can upgrade to cooling gfx card if I want just by adding a block.
