That has got to be the best idea so far. Very unlikely to be implemented, as currently viewing dead models is a client-side setting, which I personally set to disappear immediately (in Source as well as HL1). If the could code it so when a player dies his body remains whole and interactable with for about 30secs, that could be fun, although I can just see it now.

Marine1 - "I'm hiding behind the dead ono's in the corridor.. Two fades are on the other side"
Marine2 - "Er Dude, your cover just disappeared"
    Marine1 - "Oh S%$&"
    Fade1 - "N00b"

But it could add another dimension to gameplay that is totally dynamic. Everytime you play the gameyou never know where an onos corpse would be. It could change the whole dynamic of a map, for example if it gets killed in a doorway blocking it off for 30 secs. That would be more realistic yes.

    Marine1 - "He's getting away"
Marine2 - "Let him get out of the door way first or we'll never get to the hive"
Marine1 - "But he's just sitting there waiting for us, he knows we won't shoot him"
Onos - "Ohh, healed back to full health - lunch time"
Marine2 - "Damn sorry guys, didn't realise he was regen, different route after respawn?"

Great fun, although almost guaranteed to not be implemented.

I'd like <i>some</i> gore personally. A fade tearing someone apart shouldn't leave a nice corpse on the ground. Even aliens had gore; just don't overdo it.

Losing limbs isn't necessarily required, just enough blood to make it obvious someone is hurt. Blood trails are a plus.

Adding lots of gore would put the age rating up, which means less people would be legally able to buy it, which = less sales. Logic > you.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Only in America, here in Europe (in most countrys) the age-ratings are only guidelines, and not rules. Having age-ratings as rules is stupid, considering what type of hype that gets created around a game if you as an 14 - and down kid, isn't allowed to play the game in question. Since we have here in Sweden. a much more relaxed approach to age-restrictions, less kids go around in the stores almost planning in every illegal way there is to get that super-violent-galore-game.

sounds like i want to move to sweden, nice scenery, chocolate bars and no stupid laws that don't make sense - here australia they actually ban certain games, because they haven't invented a 18+ rating for games. So some fat middle aged conservative xtian is deciding for all of the adults what they should be reading/watching/playing (who are able to vote and decide the country's future, but not play a violent game if we want to?). Among some other rules/laws Australia is slowly turning into a nanny state/country.

    wow i'm really jaded lol EDIT: i see myself moving underwater to rapture soon <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Personally I have no trouble with gore. I agree SOF didn't really add any gameplay on my end with the location damage but it was kinda cool in a sense. Having bodies hang around for awhile would be intersting but then again how would it look to come back and still see a bunch of skulks and marines bodies on the ground after 2 minutes. I do think temporary cover had merits in that sense but I think you would want to play around with it. besides the Kahraa are so close in anyways that your cover is just a block for a few more seconds on thier end. Skulks go over or fades around or lerks fly, no help really. I do like the idea of seeing some damage on a fade or onos or lerk as they go by and seeing them heal up would be nice. The idea of putting a shotgun round into the leg of a fade and having them limp for awhile would be nice.

I do remember back when NS was just coming out the massive calls for CS style location damage and people being mighty upset when the answer was always no. Then NS came out and people realized that it really didn't matter. I don't think much matters on that end unless your putting a shotgun round into the face of an onos or a fade and then people can whine about carapace and armor and all that jazz so I can definatly understand why it wasn't done.
