<div class="IPBDescription">what are the system requirements for NS2 going to be</div>Is it going to need a DX10 card? ( i need to know because i want to know what PC parts i should be buying.)
The most taxed I've seen the Source engine would be DoD:S/Insurgency (both of which are crippled by Source not doing large rooms well- a problem NS2 hopefully won't have)- so I guess using those as benchmarks would be the best educated guess.

We're currently thinking the same as HL2 : Episode 1. That is: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I didn't write that, I just copied it from the FAQ and posted it here. And if you don't believe HL2:EP1 requires DX7, look at the system requirements on Steam:

Do *not* trust UWE-stated requirements. I can't find the NS1 requirements now but I'm sure it was something silly like 400mhz 128 ram (basically slightly higher than HL1's requirements).

Those levels were done professionally- you were always in a ravine or something and your line of sight was never far enough to trouble the engine. Take a game like Insurgency which has awful maps- often you'll see outdoor corridors that stretch from one base to another. Also, multiplayer games have to show 30 models (or whatever) at once from opponents, their weapons etc...
Well i am going to get Two Evga 8800 GTX DX10 cards and one intel quad core @ 2.4Ghz which well make NS2 look like Crysis <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I think I saw 5 enemies tops at a time while outside. Inside generally had the bigger battles. Semi-outside also had some medium battles runnign from building to building, which reminds me, I hated Ravenholm ran back and forth jsut to find I went the wrong way.

what about the massive area where you first get into the car? the one with the crane - that is a large open area which had massive amounts of combine and antlions <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> also ep2 will have more huge open areas
sure they were done professionally but alot of mappers are able to produce a professional quality level - i don't even know why you'd bring that as an issue.

As for specs, I'm willing to bet that if you can make HL2 look good, you can make NS2 look good. Source has always been extremely scalable, so more or less anyone will be able to join in.
Charlie has said many times that he intends on updating the engine based on what updates come out. HL2:EP2 is coming soon, so they'll most likely move to the new code.
Yea one of the great things about the source engine is it's ability to scale itself down to pretty much any system.
(And according to the <a href="http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html" target="_blank">Steam system survey</a>, there are still over 50,000 people using DX7 cards.)

Ok...but i think you meant to say DX9...DX7 is tetras.
HL2: <a href="http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=game&AppId=220&cc=CA" target="_blank">http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=g...d=220&cc=CA</a>

Scroll down a bit, they're in the right column.

Defiantly, ive seen people take a huge Freaking map and have the players still get like 100 FPS. Optimization FTW!
