How should it be played?
atm im really stuck- so far i want them to play once as each side- but i dont kno how to discern a winner if both teams win once....
would be real easy if there was AvA and MvM- but not for a while it seems...
Any suggestions?

Example:
Round 1 - Marines win
52 / 21
Round 2 - Marines win
35 / 55
Total = 87 / 76
Result: Team that played as marines first won by beating the aliens better the first round.

Of course, this depends on what the scores actually calculate. You could always count it as a tie. There's no reason you have to have a winner every match.
I'd say whoever won their match faster would be a better indication. Anyone can get more kills, but it takes true skill to win faster
here is a simple idea:
1 'round' = both teams having played both sides
then play best 2 out of 3 (exept that it would actualy be best 3 out of 6)
remember, that you have to play a few rounds and both clans should get to play both sides of each map
other wise one team will more than likely get an unfair advantage
I leave out scores b/c that just aint right (it is possible to win with only killing the entire squad once, so that screws that team)
and I leave out time b/c, well speed realy has no bearing on NS
and as for single emlimination, play 3 rounds, the third being a randomly chosen (flip an fn coin) map/teams

hope this helps
this competition will be at a LAN and ive got about 12-14 hours to fit this NS comp in....
basicaly you tweak around with my idea untill you can get it working (basicaly you want to get as many teams going at once as you can)
remember, most of the c;an competions are held over many days
ie: 'hide the farm'
or in this case, hide the jp marine/skull
It'll double the building time since marines will be covering the builders, the commander will be afraid to place a building until he has the spare builders and people to cover them, the marines will spend all their res points on turrets and finally marines will be too scared to travel to a way point unless they have back up.
Whilst this is happening it gives the gorges alot better chance to do their thing.
as for amount of teams - its a 7v7 comp, as for how many entering i have nfi- theres no way to kno this till the event.
i ended up deciding on a couple of options after much discussing- ive posted em below if anyone else is interested/wants to use
TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
All of the teams will be split into groups of 4, each team will then play the 3 other teams in a round robin style.
Ie: AvsB and CvsD
Then AvsD and BvsC
Then AvsC and BvsD
Each win will earn you 3 points, a loss will earn you 2 points, and a draw will earn you 1 point.
The winner of each group (highest points for that group) will then enter into a single elimination competition until a winner is found.
TOURNAMENT MATCH RULES
GAME
A game played will be decided by 1 game- one team will choose a map, and the other team will choose their race. Neither team will know what the other team’s choice is. Who decides what will be decided by a coin toss.
***NOTE: this may change if a better format is found***In the case of the single elimination competition, each match will consist of two halves- once as Marines and once as Aliens. One half is played and the total game time is recorded. The teams then swap sides and play again; if the opposing team wins then the team which defeated the other team quicker will be the victor. (Both team captains are required to record game time for each half)
