Actually i'm asking this for a friend, he can probably get winsoft and run it that way, but if he can run it with the mac version he wouldn't have to spend the extra money.
Well, he doesn't have the money for a pc, and yes, there is a mac version of half life. http://www.epinions.com/Half_Life_for_Macintosh

I honestly have no idea whether it will work or not... Can you play other mods somehow?
MacOS10 runs on Unix.
You could get wine (a windows emulator for Linux)
Than adjust the makefiles for MacOS10
and than install half-life.
It will not work that good. But it should work.
Hm.. but i never tested it. I only can say, it's worth a try.

I only could think of a third party Half-Life for mac.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't work.
Wine is essentially a fake windows environment.
It 'replaces' various functionality provided by windows (filesystem functions, graphics, windowing interface, etc.)
It does *not* emulate a processor.
e.g. WINE on the mac would run windows programs that were compiled for the powerpc processor. (not that useful)
