<div class="IPBDescription">releasedate anounced</div>Well it seems the FH devs have defeated the NS devs, I probably was the only one I guess keeping track of this contest <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> They are about to release their next-gen mod of WW2 historic realism and realistic balistics systems.

This game (FH1) was already the biggest and badest mod out there for the aging BF1942 engine. The new mod running on the BF2 engine will completely own if it is anything like the first version.

Now FH2 will not feature as much content as FH1, since that mod was superextremely complete with teams like: Brits, USA, French, Germans, Japanese, Russians, Itialians, Ausies, Canadians, Norwegians and a bajilion more realistic vehicles/weapons compared to the origional BF1942)

However it will feature the Afrika Korps VS the Brits in North africa and will have loads of tanks/planes/vehicles/weapons used during that part of the war. The releases after that will feature more content even and probably they will start developing the other theaters like they did for FH1. I think it will be awesome considering their track record of quality of the first version... Oh and before I forget it --> release date and linkage:

It looks to be of great quality, but how many people play BF2 still? Is the game still really popular?

Because I remember installing FH1 and have the server browser turn up zilch.

Finally. I have to say, I've been waiting for it so long that I'm not even excited about it anymore, especially since it only involves the African theater (not particularly my favorite). I'll eventually give it a try though, no doubt.

Yeah it was easier for them to only create one theater of war and because BF2 was also in the desert mostly, they took it upon themselves to modify FH1 models by adding more polies and ofcourse create complete new models and and texture them for desert combat.

I think the next step would be another theator with only the need for texturing as the modeling has been completed for the early war weapons. The FH1 models are quite detailed and could act as very valid placeholders if the need arises as well...

And I don't think that BF2 not being that popular anymore has any impact on FH2 as FH2 will draw in a whole other crowd. BF2 is a crap game while FH2 will be awesomesaus with a dedicated dev team behind it <!--coloro:#808080--><span style="color:#808080"><!--/coloro-->*cough* not EA *cough*<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->. Remember this is a total conversion not a simple mod of BF2, they even incorperated a lot of things not present in BF2 and also removed a lot of things that made BF2 suck monkey nuts <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> I am just a little bit tired of that type of comment after seeing a lot of them aimed to scared the FHdevs into an early release (<b>This is not aimed at you Liku</b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> ).

If people really want a good ww2 game which looks good and has strategic vehicle combat as well as indoor/closequarter infantry combat, FH2 will deliver with tons of it. I'm just wary of the fact that on initial release it only has the African theater though (also not my favorite), but knowing the devs I'm sure the upcomming releases will be even more awesome <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

One more thing, FH1 has about 5-7 populated servers (USA and EU) which are populated, also FH1 does not work on Vista due to a punkbuster problem... American players have 100-150 ping on EU servers and viceversa

Usually populated servers from Gamespy (weekends and evening GMT+1):

][Arische Kaempfer][ FH Wiking (87.106.140.155:14567) <-- go here if others are empty, it is a nazi server

BF2 didn't suck! Take that back. I had tons of fun playing BF2. It's a great game. I never played BF1942, and therefore never played FH, but I'm looking forward to FH2. Hopefully there will be a non torrent release, because torrents don't work at my college anymore for some reason.

Heh I just utterly detest mondern combat and arcady action in games. Thats why, for me at least, BF2 is not the game for me. So, yeah I guess it doesn't suck, but i just don't like it at all <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> (that any better?)

    Btw FH1 0.7 is still a very valid game due to its idioticly huge amount of content <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

There should be some none torrent downloads popping up this week I hope. FH1 had a few to keep an eye on for FH2 perhaps -->

I still play BF2 from time to time and yes it's still a popular game. It seems to be played more then the newer BF2142.

I'm gonna keep an eye on that mod, thanks.

I just hope they have at least one Karkand-esque city. I can only take so many long, boring walks over gradually sloping terrain before I decide to go play Red Orchestra or something.

I just spent a couple hours playing this. Wow. Awesome. If BF1942 had never been made, this would be the sequel to BF2. It's incredibly well done. I was afraid there would be a lot of boring "walk for 10 minutes to get to the battle" stuff but it really wasn't like that. On the big maps, if you're attacking, you've got plenty of vehicles. Vehicle combat is a huge part of the game; even in the city map I was just playing, the street fighting was a mix of people and tanks. It felt like that final bit of Saving Private Ryan. There's not much that can match the feeling of firing an MG-34 from behind some sandbags at approaching British troops who are lobbing grenades at you, while artillery pieces from both sides are firing and tanks are blowing each other up and flak guns are trying to down enemy bombers and Stukas are divebombing the enemy trucks. It's crazy. Definitely my new favorite BF2 mod. Even better than Project Reality and PoE. Great stuff.

hehe welcome to the FH experience as I like to call it, FH adds somekind of special feel to the game, drawing you more into the game. I have yet to encounter in other games (well perhaps NS1.04 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> )

Even FH had this type of combat feeling to it, there just is nothing to compare to when you hear enemy heavy shells from a distance and you just know you are in trouble if you don't get air or armor support. Or hearing about a konigs tiger aproaching your Sherman tankgroup and see them retreat and call in airsupport <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> FH2 will hopefully get latewar additions in the next updates as well as other theaters.

I still like FH just as much as FH2 (maybe still more because it has such a huge amount of content compared to FH2)

I'm just very annoyed BF2 keeps crashing at random when playing online, this only happens online. I can play singleplayer or localserver for ages. No idea WTH is going on <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Just watched the video with the planes. I missed those old propelled WW2 airplanes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />. I am tearing my hair out though - the DVD box is empty and I can't remember where I put the DVD. Have the serial though, so I might torrent it.

Ah well, it's too late anyway. Will try this soon.
You say FH1 had much more content than FH2, but they plan on adding lots of stuff, right?

Well comparing FH1 to FH2 in the content department is completely unfair currently

    FH:
    80maps (official mappack included)
    <a href="http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/main.php?mod=FH&module=vehicles" target="_blank">FH vehicles and countries</a>
Pacific (USA vs Japan), EU north/east/south/west front and central Europe, Russia, North africa, SE Asia

    FH2:
    - 8 maps
    <a href="http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/main.php?mod=FH2&module=vehicles" target="_blank">FH2 vehicles and countries</a>
    North african theater

This was the first release to get all the vehicles historicly accurate and maps balanced and fun to play (that takes a lot of time). I heard the development will follow the war progress (on all fronts) so I don't quite know which theater is next, but I do know that it will rock <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Let's just say FH1 still beats FH2 its behind as it is way more complete featuring 1939-1945. Heck even the Polish 1939 tanks are in there (tankettes are cute and helluva fun little tanks! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> )

Pretty good mod...but im getting way too tired for the bf2 battlemode with just capturing points back and fourth. oughta be more inventive than that.
  • Kouji_SanKouji_San Sr. Hινε Uρкεερεг - EUPT Deputy The Netherlands Join Date: 2003-05-13 Member: 16271Members, NS2 Playtester, Squad Five Blue
Well they did mix it up a bit with push maps (flags can only be taken in a specific way) and 1time cap flags, but even TF2 is nothing more then capuring control points and I hear that game is quite popular (pyro ftw! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)

Lets see what FPS mutliplayer gamemodes do we actually have after ~14 years of FPS?
<ul><li>Deathmatch and TeamDM (perhaps with vehicles)</li><li>Control points/flag areas (king of the hill and BF sandbox type games)</li><li>Capture the flag</li><li>Survivor (horror and last man standing mods/games, left4dead when its done?)</li><li>1uber class vs all (The Hidden and some quake/doom3 mods?)</li><li>FPS+RTS (NS)</li><li>Grindfest? (human team vs a huge AI controlled mob or did I take this one from flash games <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)</li></ul>
I personally like the BF sandbox type games with flag control in a specific order (push maps). It has such a wide variety of tactics a team or even one single player can use to counter attack the enemy. Even TF2 is not much more then a blasting party in specific areas and that game is popular. The BF sandbox model has IMHO the winning forumula when it comes to openended and freedome gameplay with possible objectives to take. I just wish the BF series would have more stable games like a lot of other developers created, Valve for example? (EA games tend to crash to desktop and have loads of other weird bugs that crash the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> )

After having played bf2 for quite some time, i was expecting something else than just bf2 on ww2 wheels.
it was worth reinstalling it for tryin it out tho, ill follow fh2 as it comes along.

One mode missing on that list of yours btw, objective mode, thats the main reason why im hooked on etqw atm.
but the "mindless masses" as i like to call them, want simple pick up and play games, like cs and i guess tf2, but tf2 is about the fun. but im gonna wait to aquire it myself until they start making more maps. especially warpath.
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
ETQW is basically the only high profile game to have objective mode, and nobody bought it. The masses have spoken: they want CP gameplay.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
It's funny how overhyped ETQW was. Though in my case, I didn't buy it because the infantry combat sucked so much.
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
I didn't think it was overhyped; I absolutely loved the demo. It seemed like the perfect followup to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. I'm just noting that its objective based gameplay apparently hasn't caught on as much as the simpler CP stuff that's in Battlefield.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
I don't claim to argue from authority, but like I said before, it's the sucky infantry combat that made the game unattractive for me. Maybe that's what inhibited the game's success, not the objective-based gameplay?
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
The infantry combat was Quake, which I think we could have guessed from the "Quake" in the game's name. I don't think you can really argue that nobody likes Quake.

Still not enough Coop games though, there SHOULD be more! svencoop, left4dead again? oh and I guess zombie master is one with its AI controlled minions

I'm not the only one who complained about the infantry combat, and it wasn't Quake. Where was my rapid-fire rocket launcher if it was Quake?
