As promised, here is my attempt at the now famous Welderbot (and also my Laserbot). I was going to skin it (i've already done the UV Mapping), except I'm having a little issue - anyone who can help, check the note below.

I've animated its roll, unfolding (which is crazy) and its turret. I have yet to animate its movement, but that really wouldnt take long. As mentioned, this model can fold into a ball, and would probably go into its ball-form anytime it had to travel more than a few feet. Of course, the unfolding can be slowed down, and the walking movement sped up.
Also, I've included a Laserbot prototype. We havn't discussed this possibility at all yet. This model can fold down on itself so it can fit into very small nooks; as you can see in the video below. Perhaps commanders could spend res combined with welding to have these automated sentries roam about? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Try the video below. Its about 40 seconds, showing off the two bots.

Side note to 3d artists: <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>how do you take multiple linked objects and put them into the same texture file? If its one fully-attached object, I just use Texporter and go from there. Or wait... can i just attach the pieces, texport, then unattach? Oh my...</span>

Take a look at the doom 3 sentry bot if you want for updates to this design, as that's what I thought of when I first imagined a weldbot.
ps: does the .avi not work? its completly black here, using VLC
Try Windows Media Player, it might be able to automatically get the codec for you. Apparently VLC just shows a black screen.

I got a black screen with VLC, but Media Player managed it.
Love the ideas, great unfolding animation! For what it's worth it gets my vote! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

wtf are you talking about?
wouldnt like to see some ###### clumpy robot that looks like R2D2 (starwars) . even of R2D2 welded pretty well when lukes fighter was in danger!
did this while the net was down yesterday, lets call it a Christmas-gift for the forums <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
<img src="http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9205/droid2ns2conceptcopy2da3.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />
round shape, deployable stuff, multiple options, what more can you ask for <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
since they were using the flying razor-thingie as a proxy in NS2 right now, i's assuming the repair bot would be flying. could be interesting to see how a skulk would try to hit a flying bot which is firing at it, could get nasty quite quickly.
