Is this considered to be botting?

He's brilliant? Come now man, he built a k'nex thing that pushed a button repeatedly, maybe your definition of "brilliant" is a bit too lax.
For god-sakes somebody get this kid a copy of visual basic or something, you could write a program to emulate the key-press, and it wouldn't take more then maybe 45 seconds. How long did he spend on this? An hour? 2? 3?
and fyi, building a robot out of k'nex is 10 times more fun than actually playing Maple Story, which in turn is 10 times more fun than programming macros in visual basic. by my count, that makes this kid 100 times cooler than Xyth. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Seriously, Maple Story? It's barely one step above Habbo Hotel, and that's only because you can't kill stuff in Habbo Hotel. At least when you see a stupid green blob with a moronic grin on its face in Maple Story, you can shove a flaming arrow between its eyes. But that's its only good point.
You know, robot is not wired with the system, but instead uses the same periphery as a human player.
Read: Robot with camera to observer monitor and then moves the mouse/presses the keyboard, instead of stupid software that always knows where you are and can kill you in a split second if setup correctly.
He hit's the same key for 10 hours+ every 17seconds. That's easily detectable.
haha

His lil' invention gets around Gameguard quite nicely. Plus, he won't have to painstakingly upgrade any software everytime they patch the bots over! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />

This game is mostly pressing 1 or 2 buttons to attack so..
And it presses them at the same rate all the time, thus it's detectable.
Ill make this simple:
He built a k'nex ro<b>bot</b> that pushes a button to play the game for him.
He built a bot that plays the game for him.
I like how in the video he says "This is legit because I made it instead of just downloading software to do it" because, you know, software just programs itself!
Also, what Black_Mage said.
It's easy to hear who didn't make it past duplo.
Also, he plays maple story - clearly that is where he went wrong.
thats mmo's for ya <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
I sincerely doubt that this "bot" will be detected.
Also, it reminds me (for some reason) of a macro I set up in SW:G for my dancer... just turn it on and he danced properly and rested etc... I used to leave it on while I slept or whatever.
I guess it reminds me of that because they were both equally pointless and sad.

Did you get lots of munies from passers by?
I could have achieved the same thing with one motor and some mechanics to convert the spinning to up down motion.
Same result.
Did you ever play SW:G? Male entertainer characters of any sort never got tips from anyone. It was, literally, the female twi-lek dancers who got all the tips from the folk in the cantina.
I had the dancer skill 'cos my characters name was "Dance Commando" and I wanted to dance on corpses, that's it.
I don't usually do this... but... sigged
