Aliens get Panic

<div class="IPBDescription">You know, if the marines have 2 hives and HA, the game ist mostly over</div>We all know, if the Marines Team have 2 Hives and Heavy armor, the game almost ends for aliens.
If the aliens have one hive and the marines have the heavy armor, the aliens get a bonus.

The Skulk(*gorges to?) Aliens get a X speed bonus, because they are in panic.
So every Alien, who see an Heavy armor, get panic bonus for a while.
Maybe the skulk* screams all X seconds, so the bonus is not overpowered.
All skulks* they have contact with the skulk, get the bonus to.
To remove the bonus, just stay in the hive for a while.

Interesting idea. This would tend to prolong games which is something the devs have tried to avoid in NS1. If the marines have 2 hives and heavy armor, they probably have been playing better and deserve to win. Sounds like it could be fun though.

Long dynamic games are the most fun in my opinion. (However games that are long simply because of a long slow bottleneck aren't)

    Late response:

But I dunno, getting a free MC upgrade because the other team is controling most of the map? Now I do like epic long battles (part of the reason I don't play NS anymore), but giving away freebies like this has to have a downside as well. Otherwise it's just an extra free MC upgrade when you only have DC/SC with one hive...

And what if the aliens have all of the map with all upgrades, what do the marines get. Now I know this is a rare sight in NS its current state. But I do see a viscious circle here of:

"what if >insert other team status here< , do we get"

    Yeah...

Although it could be kind of cool in concept, I don't think that it would solve as many problems as it would create.

Panic is caused by fear, no?

    Aliens don't feel fear!

Will be better if alien have rage, rage collecting by damage what aliens takes from marines, and using that rage alien can use scream for +25% bonus attack, and/or +25% speed. (New green (green - blood of alien) bar near adrenaline shows how many rage u have)

Sounds like a different approach on primal scream. Or perhaps something new as charged attacks (hmm combopoints even?)

Reward the losing team? What the hell?

So they have fun even while they lose, I can see the point to that. No one likes to get completely bent over and hog tied. That's one of the things I liked when I first found NS1, like just before version 2, people would play hide and seek even when the match was lost or they would play "Alamo" and turtle up.

Even with that said, the method proposed is not one I think would help with that, as has already been stated by others it could be open to abuse which would make the game less fun, not more so.

Prolonging the game when it's already lost isn't something desirable. It's already bad enough in NS1 with hour long marine turtles.

Those DC forts and lone marines hiding in vents are only fun for the limited few involved. I can guarantee you the majority of the server is waiting just a tiny bit pissed for the round to end.

Seconded. And not just a tiny bit pissed.

Better to end it quick and start afresh.

edit: actually, I'm reminded of this RTS, Battle Realms, where if a player has lost all his buildings and units except his single peasant or so, the game would, after a certain amount of time, reveal the single player's location to the other teams, so he wouldn't be able to stubbornly rebuild and prolong the game. I forget when, specifically, that 'revealing' would arise though.

I'm sorry, it seems I am a bit misunderstood, I'm not saying it is still fun to do that, I'm saying it used to be fun. Maybe it was the servers I played on years ago or maybe the kinds of players changed as we got older, but there was a time that I remember hearing people laugh over the microphone as they tried to figure out where the last one of whichever side was.

Sure, people are pissed now, I accept that and don't bother with the vent hiding stuff, but last stands at the Alamo do still happen and they get broken and we had fun to the last man.

Even then, I am not suggesting those are the only ways to the have fun even if you are losing. Is there no importance at all to have some fun even if your team is losing? Since someone has to lose, surely you want to seek ways in which even while biting the dust one can enjoy something or why the heck would anyone stay to play a second match after they get, er, for lack of a better word "owned". Are you going to tell me you haven't noticed a rise in the number of "rage quits" over the years?

Here's an idea, if your side is clearly losing, have a way for the team to make it to some sort of "escape pods" as a way of having some small victory, an incentive to end the match early where both sides feel like they have been victorious somehow. Like some actual fun game play instead of just F4 to the Ready Room as it is in NS1 now.

There's an idea...escape pods...They perhaps should only be usable by the team that controls them (DI must be over the controls, or the nanogrid must be active)...and if you manage to reach them and leave, then it ends the game early; however, those that manage to escape could get to do something like watch their pod dock with a waiting marine evacuation vessel and see the infected ship power down as infestation spreads throughout...and on the other side, the aliens could be in a clear substance (the NS1 eggs type stuff) and watch as the previously infected craft/ship/whatever regains control...etc...

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> That would be good! Such a stylish way to say "Advance to the rear! They win this time!"
  • HarimauHarimau Join Date: 2007-12-24 Member: 63250Members
"last stands at the Alamo"? isnt' that more of a 'back to the wall' thing then? not a '<b>hide</b> BEHIND the bloody wall' :/

advance to the rear? huh? you mean retreat?
i guess that's an idea, though.. escape pods. hmm...

Yeah. I like the escape pod idea. I'd also like to say that the original idea for this thread had been officially NSPainted by me.
