I think the CC should have a few upgrades on it, I think it should be able to have a turret independently on having and energy field powering the turrets or not.
The CC has energy in it(we can create structures and we only need resources), so It should have a Turret on the Top providing light protection to the Commander when he is being attacked.
And perhaps maybe a shield that protects the commander but it would recharge and the commander could activate it to attack nearby enemies for limited time.

If the commander isnt good enough to cap the skulk he shouldn't get out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
