The ceremony was the most awesome live performance I have ever witnessed; they really pulled out all the stops with making it one of the most large scale dramatic pieces of performance art ever to be performed.
The wow-factor was often moving up and down throughout the ceremony, but it was all good, and some moments were simply unspeakably amazing (the countdown springs most to mind). I can't even imagine how it must have felt to be there in person (except maybe quite tiring after a while!)
Did anyone else see it? What are your thoughts?

Not only that, but when people mention how China spent 40 Billion dollars on their olympics and we (Canada) are only spending 2.5 B for our whole shebang/stadiums it kinda makes me wonder what piddly little thing we have planned for our opening ceremonies. I'm thinking about four Inuits and our stupid chinese-rip-off mascots doing a polka around a few totem poles aught to cover it.
stupid vanoc.
Some of the fireworks scenes were produced with the computer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />
Imho not really surprising considering we are talking china here.

iirc the only scene that was faked was the 'footstep-fireworks' approaching the stadium itself, however all of the fireworks around the stadium and above it seemed quite real and no one had indicated otherwise, either on the broadcast or any other source.
I suppose I am not surprised; noone at the Bird's Nest could have seen them were they real, anyway. It was a cool effect anyway, a giant god walking toward the stadium!
