Microphone problem

<div class="IPBDescription">can't transmit when dead / spectator</div>I had a quick look thru the forums (first 20 pages or so) and used the search function and couldn't find a solution to this problem; apologies if I overlooked it.

Anyways, I can transmit fine when I am alive but can't when I am dead or spectator. I have seen other people managing this so I'm thinking is a bug rather than a restriction in the programming (1st thought it was to stop ghosting). Any ideas? I have uptodate drivers etc - it's a problem I had on my old comp too which makes me think it's not a driver / hardware problem.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this helps you, but I've had this problem ever since I got my mic for NS. I always thought it was a patch or server thing so I didin't make a big deal about it.

If your having it then this just makes me wonder if it is the server your on or a long forgotten patch <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

I've seen other people use their mics when dead whilst I've been unable to use mine and this has happened on more than one server; that is why I'm thinking it's got to be something my end.

Just to clarify, this does not happen on any other game apart from NS. I play mods based on both the HL1 and HL2 engines and they are fine.

However, it is nice to know I'm not the only one out there who has this problem (not that i'd wish problems onto random people)

Are you sure it's not just the voice transmit icon not appearing?

Yeah, double checked it last time I was playing and although I could be heard when alive, no-one could hear me when I was dead <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Just so you know, live players can't hear dead players. Have you checked if other dead players can hear you?

Are we still talking about NS? The last time I checked, live players <b>can </b>hear dead players. Maybe it is a server side modification?

Ok, just to clarify;<ul><li>My voice transmit works perfectly when I am alive (to the point ppl ask me which mic I use to get such good sound quality)</li><li>If i hold down my transmit button as I die, I can keep talking when I am dead - if I wait until it has moved me into spectator (waiting to respawn) then I cannot start transmitting until I am alive once more</li><li>Other people on the same server have no problems talking when dead</li></ul>Any ideas anyone?

Edit: Just noticed rasen signed up on the forum to try to help - thanks!

Oooops, it appears I have spent far too long away from playing NS. Sorry!

I think I would try re-binding my transmit key to another key just to see if there is any change.
What key do you have it bound to now? I just wonder if there is a dead-spec only function (that I can't think of) that is conflicting with it.

It used to be bound to space bar and i had the same problem then.

Since I got my new mouse I bound it to mouse button 4 - which isn't bound to anything as default (as far as I know)

    THis is an EASY ONE

    Tincan gets full marks !!!

I use Mouse 3 (middle mouse) for MIKE.

BUT WHEN IM DEAD/SPECTATING mouse 3 dont work

i have 2 keys binded to mike because as you guys know i do love to use my mike.

I found TAB key lets me speak while DEAD/SPECTATING.

and when im running into battle scene, and say die while using the MIKE (Mouse 3) the MIKE stays locked on.

But i just hit the OTHER key for MIKE (TAB key) and i can speak and unlock sticky mikes.

So answer is - Yes you can speak while dead/spectating, find a key that works for you.

i use mouse 3 while alive and TAB key when dead/spectating.

    Peace Out... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" />

Oh of course, this is a HL engine issue. Using a mouse button as voice transmit doesn't work when you have a cursor on the screen, I believe.

So when you're commander, dead or spectating you'll need to use a keyboard key instead.

I configure mouse 4 and 5 to be equivalent to the keypresses '-' and '=' which I then bind to +movement and +voicerecord. This is a workaround for the above issue.

FYI when you are in a VGUI menu, the game only recognises mouse1 and mouse2.
